Our star reviewer this issue is
Shayne.
Shayne is 11 years old, and says:
The last book I read was
My Secret guide to Paris, by Lisa
Schroeder.
The main characters are Nora, her
mum and her grandma. Nora has
always wanted to go to Paris, and
finally she gets to go.
But then tragedy strikes: the best place
in the world could be turned into the
worst. It is also about Nora and her
mum’s relationship.
I think the best bit was when Nora and
her mum go to the fashion show in her
grandma’s honour, and how happy the
ending is.
If I could pick one character as a best
friend it would be Phoebe, because
she is so sweet, kind and outgoing to
Nora, and she would be lots of fun.
THANKS, Shayne, for introducing us
to this author. The library has ordered
this, and other titles by the author, and
we hope they will arrive soon.
Here is another review by
Shayne
The trouble with Ramona and
Beezus, by Beverly Cleary.
The main characters are Ramona and
Beezus Quimby. The story is about
two sisters, Ramona and Beezus and
how Ramona is just so impossible
that sometimes Beezus can’t cope.
I think the best bit was when
Ramona and Beezus, as a team,
stand up to their father and say that
smoking is a “NO!” I would not
change one thing about this book; I
enjoyed every page!
Ramona is the character I’d pick as
my best friend because she has such
an imagination. We could play
awesome games and have a great
time imagining.
If you want more Ramona stories,
look for: Unstoppable Ramona and
Beezus—4 books in one.

Finally, Shane reviewed:
Finally, by Wendy Mass
I’ve just read a book called Finally,
by Wendy Mass.
It is about the life of Rory Swenson,
and how she wants to do all these
things that involve growing up.
And throughout the book she
learns that you can be grown-up
when you are grown-up.
I think the best bit was when Rory
realises that she is not ready to
grow up. If I could change one
thing about this book, I wouldn’t;
all of it was really good.
Sawyer is the character I’d pick as
my best friend because he is so
funny.
But I would only be his “best” friend
if I was 3. Ha Ha!
DID YOU KNOW? There are three
more books in the Willow Falls
series by Wendy Mass in our
libraries.
They are 13 gifts, Graceful, and
The last present.

My name is Olivia
I am 7 years old.
My favourite author is Geronimo
Stilton.
I’ve just read a book called Tom
Gates best book day ever, by Liz
Pichon.
The main characters are Tom and his
family and his friends and Amy.
The story is about a book week and
he doesn’t know what to wear.
I think the best bit is when he gets
the Alien scale monsters in space
book.
If I could change one thing about this
book it would be about a girl instead
of a boy.
Amy is a character I’d pick as my
best friend because she looks nice
and I like her hair.
You can win your own Tom Gates
books by participating in the Summer
Reading Club.

to be won, and don’t forget to join up.
My name is Lara
I am 10 years old.
I’ve just finished reading a book
called Gangsta Granny, by David
Walliams, Illustrated by Tony Ross.
This book is about a boy called Ben
who hated visiting his granny, but
when he realised she was a gansta
he got right into the experience.
I loved the granny because she was
funny and cheeky. I also loved the
adventures Ben and granny went
on.
Who should read this book?
Everybody, I think, but especially
kids. If you like crime books then
you will like this book.
RAW NOTE:
If you have not yet read any books
by David Walliams, reserve a copy
now. Try some of these:
Awful aunty
Billionnaire boy
Grandad’s great escape
Bad dad (coming soon)
The greatest magician in the
world
Matt Edmondson / Garry Parsons
Would you like to own this book?
It arrived tightly wrapped in cling
film, so we can’t tell you much.
It seems to be about a boy called
Elliot who is mad about magic. We
think his great grandfather had
once been known as The Greatest
Magician in the World and Elliot is
desperate to follow in his footsteps.
But it’s tricky when the only magic
book in the library is missing half its
pages, and there’s no one around
to teach you.
And it’s tricky when we can’t take a
peek inside to tell you more.
If you want to own this book, we
would love to find out what’s inside.
Email or phone the Young People’s
Services at the library and grab a
copy now! [email protected]

Mr Lemoncello’s Library
The eccentric billionaire and
brilliant game designer, Mr
Lemoncello, has built the most
amazing library in the world.
From the ceiling hangs the
“Wonderdome” - ten wedge
shaped, high-definition video
screens.
Holographic statues project into
recesses throughout the building,
and audio-animatronic Mother
Goose characters act out stories
in the Children’s reading area.
On opening day, the famous
game maker has arranged an
invitation only library lock-in;
twelve lucky kids get the chance
to be the first to experience the
new high-tech library.
As these smart kids soon learn,
getting inside the library will be a
whole lot easier than getting out.
It’s like Willy Wonka’s Golden
Ticket with a lot more riddles and
puzzles; twists and turns!
There are three thrilling
adventures in Mr Lemoncello’s
library series for you to borrow, or
download, and enjoy throughout
the holidays.
