Half-Day Professional Development
Day - Wednesday, March 30, 2016. We will be having our half-day profes-sional development on Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Students will have clas-ses in the morning and breakfast and lunch will be served. Students will be released by 11:15 AM so parents of bus riders should be at the bus stops no later than 11:45 AM.
On February 23, 2016, AsTumbo Elementary had the annual Mes Chamorro Opening Ceremony where students were able to perform songs from the Chamorro culture. The 2016 Rai and Raina Pageant also took place during the ceremony as students learned the winners of the annual competition. Congratulations to:

2016 BLOCK KIDS COMPETITION SPONSORED BY NAWIC
The National Association of Women in Construction held the 3rd Annual BLOCK
KIDS Competition where students from grades 1st to 5th grade compete by build-
ing a structure made of a specific set of materials. 2nd grade student, Isaiah and
3rd grader Jaeden Arjona competed as representatives from our school.
CONGRATULAITONS to Jaeden Arjona who placed 1st in her division.
On Friday, February 25th, the ATES Chamorro
Program held the Annual School Kadon Pika Com-
petition. With the support of their parents and
teachers, 5th grade teams prepared their kadon pika
dishes for our guest judges, Chef Ron Fernandez,
Peter Atoigue, Jimmy Teria, Jeannette Suparales,
and Jordan Megofna.
Our 5th grade teams consisted of: 1st Place and School Representatives at the Island-
wide Competition: Linangitan Prinsesa
Rayvana Cruz, Shaylah Margeson,
and Zody Rengulbai
2nd Place Traven Pangelinan and Lance Sarmiento
3rd Place: Damen Weilbacher, Jackylinn Boneo, and Angel Macdon
We were honored with the presence of the members of
our royal court, Rai Isaac Ungacta, Raina Allijah Gua-
mataotao, and Prinsesa Kaylene Hurtado who observed
the activities that evening.
In addition to the Kadon Pika competition, students
from the other grade levels were present to demonstrate
cultural activities such as weaving with coconut leaves.
Jump Rope for the Heart Activities: It is that time again to
pick up those jumpropes and start jumping. This school
year, the Jump Rope for Heart Activity will be held in con-
junction the Chamorro Festivities. One of the festivities is a
field day, where Jump Rope for the Heart will have an ob-
stacle course. The obstacle course consists of individual
jump roping and single Dutch jumping rope. The Field day is
on March 11, 2016.
We will have a "Spring into Reading" morning assembly/parade in observation of Read Across America on March 2nd. Everyone is encouraged to celebrate love of reading!
Dress up in any of Dr. Seuss' characters, favorite childhood story characters or wear shirts that have positive messages.
The Language and Literacy program
will have a guest and buddy readers
in our school library.

On behalf of AsTumbo Elementary, our school guidance counceslor, Ms. Bryce O’Connor would like to thank the presenters for sharing
with our students about their careers and the message that hardwork, staying in school, and perseverance is key to success.
Thank you to Officer Tapao and Officer Santos who came out to speak about the work of a police officer and the path they followed to
earn their badges. Thank you also goes out to Curriculum Coordinator Mrs. Felipe’s children, Private Jake Felipe and Private Kylie Felipe
also visited and presented about how to join the Army. The presenters had the students engaged and children shared their interest in
joining these fields.
