    RI Presidents July 2013 Message

    Dear fellow Rotarians,

This is an incredibly exciting time tobe a Rotarian. This Rotary year canbe one of the greatest years wehave yet experienced in Rotary butit is up to each one of us. We arenow writing the last chapter in our

fight against polio. While it has beena long, hard journey, we havelearned many valuable lessons. We

have learned that as a group we can move mountains, we canchange peoples lives for the better, and we can honestly make adifference in our world. Perhaps the greatest lesson has been thathe more we challenge ourselves, the more we can achieve.

We are also embarking on a new chapter in the storied history ofour Rotary Foundation. We have the rare privilege of launching anentirely new grant structure weve come to know as Future Vision.t gives us the opportunity to challenge ourselves to do the abso-ute most we can, with all of our resources. Just think how muchmore we can do with a stronger Foundation, with stronger clubsfilled with more Rotarians who are fully engaged in Rotary service.

ts time for us to recognize that the real challenge we face isnt

just bringing new members into Rotary. Its turning all meminto true Rotarians. Its helping members get engaged in Rotahelping them realize the potential they have, and how their Roservice can change lives. We need to make sure that every mber is active and contributing, and making a real difference cause when youre doing meaningful work in Rotary, Rotarmeaningful to you.

When we realize what we can achieve in Rotary when we reengage Rotary thats when lives change. We change the livethe people who need us. That is inevitable. And along the waylives are changed as well. That is also inevitable. Thats whattheme is all about in 2013-14: Engage Rotary, Change Lives. Its time to open our eyes to the potential each of us has throRotary. Rotary lets us reach higher, do more, and be a parsomething larger than ourselves. No matter how much we givRotary, we get more in return. And that, too, is inevitable.

In 2013-14, lets turn all of our potential into reality. Its up toWe can do it by engaging in Rotary service, by getting involvedstaying inspired, and by remembering every day the gift we hin Rotary. Together, we will Engage Rotary, Change Lives

The new Rotary year: Changes we should know aboutBy Arnold R. Grahl Rotary News -- 1 July 2013

For three years, 100 districts have been testingFuture Vision, a pilot of The Rotary Foundationsnew grant system, which was designed to in-crease Rotarys effectiveness during the next

    century of service.

As the new Rotary year dawns, the future hasbegun. All districts begin using the simplifiedgrant structure 1 July. Districts have already beencompleting the qualification process and qualify-ng their clubs. A number of clubs and districtshave begun preparing and submitting grant appli-cations.

There will be three types of grants: global, district, and packaged. You can learn about all threeypes, and get more details about the application

    process, on Rotarys grant microsite.

Also on 1 July, new leaders will take office at theclub, district, and international levels.Ron D. Burton, of the Rotary Club of Norman,Oklahoma, USA, will become Rotarys 103rdpresident and will encourage Rotarianso Engage Rotary, Change Lives . Read a profile

    Other changes for 2013-14:

Rotarians will be allowed to form satellite clubs, whose members meet at a different time andlocation from their parent clubs. The change, approved by the Council on Legislation in April, isintended to make it easier for members to de-velop the core for a new club.

Districts will be able to form an unlimited number

of e-clubs. The Council removed a limit of two e-clubs per district. The change is designed to bringin new members and appeal to young profession-als, who may be less able to meet in personweekly.

The name of Rotarys fifth Avenue of Service willchange from New Generations Service toYouth Service. This change was also approvedby the Council. In 2010, this avenue of service

joined Club Service, Vocational Service, Commu-nity Service, and International Service.

The dues Rotary clubs pay Rotary Internationalwill increase US$1 to $53 per member.
