An Uplifting Finale

From the Office of the PresidentDear Alumnae and Friends of St. Hubert,

Happy New Year! I hope that you all had a blessed Christmas and that this year of 2011 brings many blessings to each of you.

Here at St. Hubert, we are coming to the end of our first semester and it has been a good one for our students. As always, our students continue to shine in many ways. Here are a few of the first semester achieve-ments: • An increased number of students made the Honor Roll.

• Our fall sports teams made it to the play-off level, with four Cross Country members going to State Finals.

• Eight of our music students were chosen for the All-Catholic Orchestra and All-Catholic Chorus. • Our Art 3 and Art 4 students were invited to exhibit their work at the Philadelphia Museum of Art during December. (See separate article)

We know that you rejoice with us as we celebrate the accomplishments of our present Bambies.

As you read the newsletter, you will see that there are a number of upcoming events that you are invited to attend: the Practically Perfect Tea, Trivia Night and Art Auction sponsored by the Alumnae Association and the all-class reunions scheduled for Florida and Baltimore in addition to the different class reunions. I hope that you will join us for a few of these events. It is always fun when Bambies get together.

You recently received our annual appeal letter and I want to thank all those who have sent in a donation. St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls is alive and well, and your generous gifts enable us to continue to provide our present day Bambies with the same wonderful education and experiences that you treasure.

God bless you and count on my prayers for all of your intentions.

God bless you.

Sister Mary E. Smith, IHM President

All-Class Reunion at the Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, NJ

Class of 1985 Reunion at Rosewood.

The Art 3 & 4 students were featured in a special exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art during the month of December. The exhibit included paintings and drawings based on a unit of study on Impressionism. In September, students began their study of French Impressionism by creating “en plein air” sketches (outdoor observational drawing). Students focused on lighting and color changes during different times of day, while using an impressionistic technique with colored pencils. The students were then asked to research and compare works from Claude Monet, while working on an indoor acrylic painting of a landscape scene. The paintings needed to show both the color palette and technique of this style of art. As a culmination to the project, the Art 3 & 4 students attended a specialized tour at the museum where they were able to view authentic works by Monet, Pissaro, Renoir, and Cezanne. Mrs. Cratin, art teacher at St. Hubert, then submitted the drawings and paintings to the museum for review. Impressed with our work, the students were asked to participate in a special exhibit to be shown from December 7th to the 19th. The following students had their work exhibited: Helena

Bayer ‘12, Taylor Plunkett-Clements ‘11, Alyssa Kelly ‘11, Gianna Damis ‘11, Teresa Kozin ‘11, Brittany Levy ‘11, Kathryn Mallon ‘11, Megan O’Neill ‘11, Christa Mansi ‘12, Amanda Wettrick ‘12, Angelica Clark ‘12, Jackie Whitman ‘12. We are so very proud of their accomplishments!

School Happenings

A long-standing tradition at St. Hubert is the Annual Christmas Concert. This year, under the direction of Ms. Debra Fitzgerald, Sister Frances Pallozi, and Ms. Anne Conneghen, our orchestra, chorus, and handbell choir helped parents and students alike enter into the Christmas Spirit. The highlight of the Sunday afternoon performance for family and friends, as well as the December 23 performance for the student body was the closing sing-a-long and live Nativity scene. To the strains of “O Come All Ye Faithful” Mary, Joseph, Shepherds, Wisemen and Angels took their place. The reverent singing of “Silent Night” by the entire audience made the moment an occasion of prayer for all present.
