Brief History

▪ Friends of Anandwan, an information organization was established in 2007 and Annual

HEART & SOUL WALK was launched to raise money for Anandwan, Hemalkasa and raise

awareness about their activities.

▪ Over next 12 years between 50 and 200 supporters of all ages have participated in the

walk. Over $150,000 were raised and sent to Maharogi Sewa Samiti.

▪ We had the honor of Drs. Prakash and Manda Amte, Dr. Vikas Amte, Dr. Sheetal Amte-

Karajgi and Mr. Gautam Karajgi leading the walk during past several years.

▪ REACH IN US was registered as a non-profit corporation in Virginia in December 2017 and received IRS tax exempt status (501.c.3) in 2018

▪ Mission:

o Promote education and community health among underserved communities in India and US.

o Motivate others to reach within themselves to find the passion and compassion to help the underserved

▪ How we Accomplish the Mission:

o Provide resources to institutions that work directly to deliver services to disadvantaged populations.

o Create volunteer opportunities in a flexible and collaborative structure

o Identify and support individuals and families that can benefit from a helping hand at a critical time in their lives.

Financial Report: Comments

▪ Friends of Anandawan was formed to exclusively support Maharogi Sewa Samiti (MSS) projects

(Anandwan and Hemalkasa).

▪ REACH IN US has a broader charter to support other activities in India and US. However largest

funding will continue to go to MSS.

▪ We will continue to offer our supporters the option to earmark their donations for MSS.

▪ We will continue to maintain a balance of ~$10,000 to ensure stability for multi-year projects.

▪ Administrative expenses covered by contribution from founders. 100% of your donations go

towards supporting mission of the foundation.


Projects funded at Anandwan


Anand Madhyamik School:The school was founded in July 2018 with an aim to groom the students of Anandwan and nearby villages in an environment that will allow them to build their intellect and emotional and social sensitivity and also responsibility.• 33 students in 9th and 10th grade• Staff strength 6• Workshops on languages, science and maths that

provide students to dream and experiment• Orienting the students to environmental and social

topics like afforestation, renewal energy, conservation of natural resources; sensitizing on leprosy and other ailments common in the region; exposing to social/ economical challenges like citizen awareness

REACH In US projects: 2018: 20 Fowler beds for Anandwan Hospital2019: Rs 300,000 towards operating expenses of

Anand Madhyamik School.

Projects funded at Hemalkasa: Sadhana Vidyalaya

Founded on 5th May 2015, Sadhana Vidyalaya is run by Lok Biradari Prakalp for educating those primitive tribal kids who are located in very deep forests and suffer to get even the basic needs in today's modern world.

Vision:• Delivering community contextual learning process• Creating a culture of self learning and to assist

students, understand their interests and abilities to set their own goals

• Handover operational responsibilities of the school in the abled hands of the community

Current Status:97 students in grades from nursery to 4th grade, 8 teachers and 3 helpers.

REACH IN US support:• 2018: Paid for construction of one permanent

structure to house the school• 2019: Rs 300,000 towards operating expenses

Yogeshwari Patil: NIRMAN BATCH 8; Native Place: OsmanabadEducation: Engineer [Electronics & Telecommunications];

Project: Sondara Gurukul started under the guidance of Honorable Nanaji Deshmukh in 1986 in the remote area of Domri

in Beed district of Marathwada. It is an educational and rural development organization to provide value-based education

along with literacy to the children of sugarcane workers.

NIRMAN is a youth leadership development initiative launched by Drs. Abhay and Rani Bang in 2008 to identify, nurture and organize young change-agents to take on various social challenges. REACH IN US Support:2018: Educational expenses for Nursing training program in Pune2019: Recurring expenses for medical supplies and drugs at Caring Friends Hospital and Research Center for one year.

Volunteer work: Collaborators and Activities▪ New Hope Housing:

o Serving home-cooked, nutritous lunch for shelter residents one Sunday per montho Working with children from families living in transitional housing every Tuesday

(activity ended due to programmatic changes)o Meeting with shelter residents and educating them about healthy lifestyle, chronic conditions

and motivation (~ once a month at two shelters)

▪ Cornerstone Va:o After school homework help and doing projects for children from (largely immigrant) families

with limited means. Activities held every evening at Herndon Neighborhood Resource Center.

▪ 2020 awards recipients and short bios:oMy name is Sonia Ramyar. I am from Afghanistan. I moved to Virginia

four years ago with a strong goal and passion to start my higher education and make a good future. Currently, I am pursuing my Associate degree in Information Technology as a full-time student at Northern Virginia Community College and it is my second semester.

oMy name is Hyusnung Choi. I was born in a village in Northern part of South Korea on a farm and lived there till 18. I moved to Seoul to study and worked as a Dental Hygienist for a few years. Since I moved to Northern Virginia I have been working in a Dentist’s office as a receptionist and as assistant but without training in US, I cannot be a Dental Hygienist, which is my dream. I am now enrolled in NOVA’s program for Dental Hygienist and have finished one year.
