II Kings 1
I. The message that was DECLARED
A. The Compilations of all his messages
(1Ki 17:1) And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
(1Ki 17:23-24) And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and
delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth. And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of
the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

B. It was a message of Condemnation
(2Ki 1:3-4) But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of
Baalzebub the god of Ekron? Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And
Elijah departed.
(Jud 1:22) And of some
have compassion,
making a difference:
(Mar 6:20) For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he
heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
(Act 24:24) And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife
Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him
concerning the faith in Christ.
(Act 24:25) And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and
judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this
time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
(Jer 6:13-14) For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto
the priest every one dealeth falsely. They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace;
when there is no peace.(Jer 6:16) Thus saith the LORD,
Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the
good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But
they said, We will not walk therein.

B. It was a message of Condemnation
C. It was a Convincing message
(2Ki 1:5-6) And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned
back? And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is
it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?
therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
(1Co 9:16) For though I preach
the gospel, I have nothing to
glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea,
woe is unto me, if I preach not
the gospel!
I. The message that was DECLAREDII.The attack on the DELIVER
A. The Character attack on the messenger
(2Ki 1:7-8) And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words? And
they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins.
And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.

(Rom 16:17) Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences
contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

B. The Calling out of the messenger
(2Ki 1:9) Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an
hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.
I. The message that was DECLAREDII.The attack on the DELIVERIII.The effect on the DOUBTFUL
(2Ki 1:10-11) And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven,
and consumed him and his fifty. Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And
he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.
(Jer 51:40) I will bring them down like lambs to the
slaughter, like rams with he goats.
(Psa 44:22) Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for
the slaughter.
(2Ki 1:13) And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went
up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these
fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.
I. The message that was DECLAREDII.The attack on the DELIVERIII.The effect on the DOUBTFUL IV.The King’s ultimate DEMISE
(2Ki 1:17) So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And
Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king
of Judah; because he had no son.
