    Task

    1. What two adverbs are used to describe how hopeful Uncle Ginger was? Pg12. Why did Uncle Ginger say, ‘Fever went like magic.’? Pg23. Why did Melody think Harmony was up to her tricks? Pg34. Why did the Silvertip grin when he said they grow tea in India? Pg45. Why do you think Harmony kept very quiet when they spoke about a dog? Pg6

1.The two adverbs used to describe how hopeful Uncle Ginger was cautiously and surprisedly (which isn’t aword).

2.Uncle Ginger said, ‘Fever went like magic,’ because he knew he was alive because of the Queen’s Nose.3.Melody thought Harmony was up to her tricks because she remembered her wish had come true to go to

America after Harmony asked her.4.The Silvertip grinned because that was one of his clues, he left Harmony on her treasure hunt for the

    Queen’s Nose.

5.Harmony was quiet because she knew she had not more wishes left, and she did not get to wish for her dog.

Harmony and her family finally received two letters with good news. One was a letter from the doctors explaining it had been a miracle Uncle Ginger was going to survive and the other from her Uncle. Harmony could barely read her Uncle’s writing as it looked like it took a lot of effort to write because it was so messy (laborious scrawl). He eventually returned to England just like the Queen’s Nose had ordered officially (ordained). He told them he did not have to return to his job as he had been retired (invalidated) due to his illness. He was happy because he had received a good pension which means a regular payment he gets from the company because he had been working there for so long. I wonder what he has to say to Harmony. Let’s read and find out.

    Writing

To be able to use apostrophes correctly for contraction

You can use apostrophes to show that you have omitted (left out) some letters

when you are joining words together.

    E.g. You + are = you're.

The apostrophe takes the place of the removed letters. In this example, the

    letter a.

Sometimes, however, you need to rearrange the letters a bit when you contract

    the words. E.g. Will + not = won't.

Activity 1: Find the contracted version for each set below:

    Did not They are

    It is I am

    We are We will

    You have Should have

Activity 2: Rewrite each sentence out, placing the apostrophe in the correct place to show a contraction of two words.

    1) Theyre going to the cinema today.

    2) Mary said, “ Youve got a lovely house.”

    3) Mum told me Ive got to be home by 7.

  • Activity 3: Explain the mistake in each sentence before writing it out so it is

    correct.

    1) Its cold out’side today.

    2)I told her I didn’ot do it.

3)The dog shouldno't chase the ball.

4)We willn’t be coming for dinner after all.

    Activity 4:

Find the apostrophes for contraction in the model text and underline the

    words.

    Challenge: Contraction or possession?

    Possession

An apostrophe can be used to show that one thing belongs to or is

    connected to something.

    E.g. Chael's ball. Fardaws' pen.

Which sentence uses an apostrophe for contraction or apostrophe.

    1. Anais’ story was full of exciting ideas.

    2. They shouldn’t be wearing trainers in school.

    3. I’d like to help a student that does not understand.

    4. Ukraine’s currency is the Ukrainian Hryvnia.

    5. I won’t go to Paris on Lilian’s plane. It’s too scary.

  • Wednesday 3rd January Art LO: To be able to draw your still life using your plan The moment has arrived Year 3! It is time to draw your still life art. You need to think about 2 decisions:

    1. The positions of your objects. 2. The areas of light and dark.

Step 1: The positions of your objects. Use your plan from last week to decide where you will place your items. Which items will be in the foreground and which will be in the background? Step 2: The areas of light and dark You can position a lamp to create shadows or simply place your objects in a way that creates different shades. Here are some examples to inspire you.

Watch the video on DB to help you. Good luck!

Rewards will be given for each poem!

    Examples of poems:

During lockdown I have been working on DB

Learning about Europe while missing Year 3

How long does it take for the Earth to spin on its axis? 24 hours.

When the earth is facing the sun, we get sunlight for our flowers.

Working from home has been tough for me

But I know it is much easier when I watch the videos on DB

I have enjoyed learning about man made landmarks in Germany

The Eiffel Tower is an example of human geography.

During this half term I enjoyed reading The Queen’s Nose

If you had 7 seven wishes, what would you wish for? Who knows?

Writing has been fun and learning how to use an expanded noun phrase

Maths has been great! I could practice my times tables for days!
