Judith Herrington, a highly regarded guest con-ductor, workshop clinician and choral clinician, brings over 35 years of teaching & conducting experience to her work at Tacoma Youth Chorus and Charles Wright Academy in Ta-

coma, Washington. A graduate of the University of Oregon, Ms. Herrington earned her Master of Education degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR, and has furthered her conduct-ing studies through masterclasses with Rod-ney Eichenberger and Henry Leck. She has also published choral compositions, arrangements and co-authored choral teaching texts through Pavane, Hal Leonard and Colla Voce Publishing.

Dr. Robert Taylor is the Director of Bands at the University of British Colum-bia, where he conducts the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Concert Winds, teach-es instrumental conduct-ing, and heads the brass division. Prior to his ap-

pointment at UBC, Dr. Taylor served as the Direc-tor of Bands at the University of Puget Sound. He received his Doctor of Music degree in conducting from Northwestern University and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Trumpet and Music Education from Humboldt State University. He maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor and clinician, and his research has been published in GIA’s Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series.

Dr. Bruce Pearson is a world-renowned music educator, author, com-poser, conductor and cli-nician. He is the author of Best in Class and The Standard of Excellence Band Methods, and he has contributed to many

others. Dr. Pearson is also well-known as a composer of many widely-performed com-positions for concert band and jazz ensem-ble. He has been a guest conductor through-out North America, Asia and Europe, and has taught at the elementary, junior high, high school and college level for over thirty years. Dr. Pearson’s appearance is made possible by the support of the Kjos Music Company.

Willi Zwozdesky, now in his 33rd season as conduc-tor of the Vancouver Men’s Chorus, is widely known as a choral conductor, for his work as an arranger, and for his work in music publishing and arts man-agement. He completed

his Master of Music in choral conducting and a Master of Arts in music theory at the Univer-sity of Washington. At the core of Zwozdesky’s career are his choral arrangements, which are regularly programmed by leading choirs across Canada and abroad. In addition to his freelance work as a choral clinician, he serves as the Ex-ecutive Director of the BCCF, and as a choral spe-cialist for Long & McQuade.

Fred Stride is the Senior Lecturer and Director of Jazz Ensembles, Jazz Theory and Jazz Arrang-ing at the University of British Columbia and is active as a band leader and guest conductor. He works as a clinician, ad-

judicator and teacher at various music fes-tivals, summer camps and jazz workshops across the country. Fred has written works for the CBC Orchestra, the VSO, several Ca-nadian Armed Forces Bands, the Brampton Concert Band, the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the UVIC Wind Symphony. Many of his jazz compositions are published by Sierra Music Publications.

John Purifoy is an ASCAP composer and arranger with various published choral anthems, cantatas and key-board collections and works recorded by Carol Lawrence, Anita Kerr, the Chicago Mas-ter Chorale and other art-ists. His work for chorus and

orchestra, We Hold These Truths, narrated by Alex Haley, won the 1987 Freedoms Foundation Award for musical programs. He is the composer and lyricist of the stage musical, Lambarene, which received a workshop production at the state theatre of New Jersey in 1991. John Purifoy appears courtesy of Hal Leonard & Lorenz.

Cheryl Lavender is rec-ognized as a master music educator, composer, au-thor and clinician. Her 50+ resources for music educa-tors include World Part-ners, Making Each Minute Count, The Ultimate Music Assessment and Evalua-

tion Kit, Songs of the Rainbow Children, Rhythm & Melody Flash Card Kits and her popular Music Bingo series. Cheryl’s enthusiasm for teaching music, coupled with her love for children, make her one of the most sought-after clinicians in music education. Having taught music for 37 years at the elementary through university levels, Cheryl maintains an active writing and speaking schedule through Hal Leonard.
