REBELS AUTO CLUB
NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2012
President’s Message
Newsletter Editor: Tracee Bougger
2702 South Street
Lincoln, NE 68502
Email: [email protected] PH:
I would like to thank all of the board
members and regular members of the Rebels
for making my 2 year term as President
enjoyable and fulfilling. I enjoyed
representing the Rebels everywhere I went.
I would hope those that succeed me will have
the same experience. I have come to know
some of you quite well and enjoyed working
with you. I have admired the accomplish-
ments we have all made together. The Rebels
continue to support local businesses,
charities, our military and schools. The
majority of our income depends on members
volunteering their time. Our youth is definitely the future for the
Rebels and it is good to see us recruiting
and supporting them. Our work ahead is
challenging to bring younger people into the
Rebels and instill in them the hard work our
members put forth and the rewards we all
enjoy. I hope everyone is getting ready for and can
attend the next meeting at Parkers on
December 19th when we hold elections. If
you aren't able to attend, please contact
Craig Foster for an absentee ballot. The
board has had many interesting discussions
the past 2 years and I believe we have
always had the club's best interest when
making decisions. Good luck to the new
board members. Please sign up as soon as possible for the
Christmas/Holiday Party at the Knolls on
January 19th so we know how many will
attend. Membership dues are due in January
so you can pay for your membership and the
party at the same time. The total for the
membership and party is $28.00. We have a
minimum number of seats we have to pay for
and last year we came up considerably short.
If we don't have enough members attending
the party, the money has to come out of our
treasury to make up the difference. We have
a budget for the party, but it doesn't in-
clude this amount. Don't wait until the
last minute. I look forward to seeing everyone at the
next meeting. Again, thank you for all
your support the past 2 years. Hope to
see you all on the road soon! Cary Petersen, President
November Meeting, November 28, 2012 at
Valentino’s.
64 members and guests present.
The meeting was called to order by Cary at
7:30 pm. We have one new member, Jerry
Solomon, he has a replica car. Cary asked for
birthdays, Bobbi Wells had a birthday last week and Eric
Tepley had a birthday on November 19th. Cary asked if eve-
ryone read the article in the Neighborhood Extra. The arti-
cle told how the Rebel’s started and also told about what
the Rebel’s do, scholarships, donations, troop packages.
Renee gave the vice presidents report. The next executive
meeting, which will be Cary’s last board meeting, will be at
Honeycreek in Waverly on December 11th at 7 pm. The
next general meeting will be December 19th at Parker’s
Smokehouse, it will be election of officers. The Christmas
party will be January 19th at The Knoll’s. Renee asked that
all dues and payment for the Christmas party be paid to
Wanda. It would be great if everyone could pay in advance.
Cary also asked that as many as possible pay in advance of
the party. Last year we paid for quite a few meals due to
not having the minimum attending that we had reserved
for. Renee is passing around the signup sheet for the party.
The January meeting will be January 30th and will be at
the VFW.
Margaret gave the secretary’s report. A motion was made
to accept the minutes from the October meeting; the motion
was seconded and approved. Margaret had membership
forms for anyone who wanted to renew their membership
tonight and also updated member lists. The deadline for
the newsletter is December 3rd, please send any articles or
pictures to Tracee by that date so they will be in the news-
letter. Margaret read thank you letters from People’s City
Mission, The Food Bank of Lincoln, The Arc of Lincoln, and
Clinic With A Heart. She also read a letter from the Ne-
braska Agribusiness Development Team #3, stationed in
Afghanistan thanking the Rebel’s for the packages that we
sent them. They were especially appreciative of the cookies.
Also included with their letter was a certificate of apprecia-
tion and a signed photo. Thanks to all of you for the sup-
port for all the causes that the Rebel’s help to support. We
are making a difference in our community.
Wanda gave the treasurer’s report. We are still waiting for
the check from SCAA for $2,200. Wanda said that renewals
can be done via Paypal if you wish to do that. We do pay a
fee for each Paypal transaction however. There was a mo-
tion made, seconded and approved to accept the treasurer’s
report.
Scott gave the coordinator’s report. He said that Forever
Angels are having a toy and fund drive. Toys are for up to
20 years of age. Toys can be dropped to Scott at AutoZone
by December 15th, they can be wrapped. Please note the
gender and age of child on the package. Sandy Francisco
made a motion that the Rebel’s donate $250 to Forever An-
gels. It was seconded and approved.
Old Business:
At last month’s meeting there was a vote on a change in the
by laws, which was approved. There needed to another vote
to ratify that change at tonight’s meeting. The change al-
lows a current board member who still has a year left of
their term to run for a different office without having to
resign the current position. If they are elected the board
will then appoint someone to fill that position, if they do not
win they would serve out the term of their current position.
Linda Masters asked that there be an explanation of the
change to clarify exactly what was being voted on. Craig
Foster gave an explanation and Cary asked for a vote. The
vote was 26 for the change and 14 against.
There was a question on the cost of the Christmas party,
it’s $10 for members, $20 for non members.
New Business:
December Ladies' Night will be December 18th at the Maca-
roni Grill, 6 pm.
Thanks to the Bill and Linda Masters for hosting the Hal-
loween Party. A good time was had by all.
There was a call for any other nominations for the ballot.
All names need to be submitted tonight. Those running for
an office are : President-Dave O’Melia and Renee Morrison
Treasurer: Amy Tepley and Ken Bougger, At Large: Lydell
Otley, Bill Montz and Jim Jensen
Rod Phelps said that on December 16th there will be cruise
starting at the Old Cheney Culver’s and going to Roger’s
collection and then for dinner in Denton at the Legion Club.
Leaving Culver’s at 4 pm.
Jim Jensen gave the answer’s to last months trivia and
thanked every-
one for partici-
pating.
Craig Foster
gave Ford
trivia, next
month will be
Chevrolet.
The meeting
was adjourned
at 8:30 pm.
Respectfully
submitted,
Margaret
Otley,
Secretary

Scott
Board meeting, will be at Honeycreek in
Waverly on December 11th at 7 pm.
We need reservations as soon as possible for determining room size. All reservations must
be turned in by the 5th of January. Members $10, Non-members $20. Sign up at the club
meeting or through the club secretary or treasurer. If you would like to participate in the
gift exchange, bring a wrapped $15 gift.
GIFT ECHANGE
Everyone wishing to participate brings a wrapped $15 gift. All of the gifts are placed in a pile, separated into men &
women’s and all participants are then given randomly assigned numbers. Then the madness begins. The person who
has the lowest number chooses a gift from the pile, unwraps it, shows everyone, then the second person has the op-
tion of either taking the first person’s already opened gift or unwrapping a new gift of their own. If someone’s al-
ready unwrapped gift is taken from them they have the option of taking someone else’s already unwrapped gift, or
returning to the pile of unwrapped gifts. This proceeds until all the numbers have been drawn, all the gifts un-
wrapped, and all the stealing has been completed. ANY GIFT CAN ONLY BE “STOLEN” 3 TIMES TOTAL, THE
4TH PERSON OWNS IT. The game ends with participant #1 having their selection of any gift, except for the
“OWNED” ones.
Come to the December 19th meeting to cast your vote for next year's open Board positions. The nomination committee has worked hard to give you some great candidates.
Non email members-your absentee ballot is enclosed in this newsletter.
Other members needing to vote absentee, will need to request an absentee ballot by December 13th by contacting Craig Foster at 402-435-8842 or [email protected].
All (via email or mail) absentee ballots need to be received by December 17th. If you return your ballot by mail you must include a return address and please write on the envelope "absentee" in order to be included in the vote.

In the 1930's and 1940's before there were interstates everyone drove
the old 2 lane highways and back roads. Burma Shave signs would be
posted all over the countryside in farmers fields. They were small red
signs with white letters. Five signs about 100 feet apart, each con-
taining 1 line of a 4 line couplet, with the 5th sign advertising Burma
Shave, a popular shaving cream.
