Margaret & Lydell also take

all the can tabs we collect to

Here is a picture of the Sewing for Babies crew accepting the donation from the Rebels. Our Re-

bels, Sandy Ready and Carol Danielson are included.

Little angels are born everyday!

Most go home right away.

Some must stay a little longer.

Just till they are stronger.

They are so tiny, they fight to live,

giving life all they've got to give.

These tiny angels need lots of love.

The tiny things you make come as gifts from above.

Quilts made with care, each block just so.

Little gowns for warmth help them to grow.

Some angels don't get a chance

to enjoy their mother's arms.

Heavenly Father calls them home

with His outstretched arms.

They need just one last outfit to cuddle in.

Mother keeps the heart as a memory

of where her angel's been.

WHAT IS SEWING FOR BABIES?

Sewing for Babies, Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, all volunteer organization that has combined the love for babies with their love of sewing, knitting, and crocheting to provide warm blankets and clothing for premature, sick and babies in need. They deliver to hospitals, social services, crisis pregnancy centers, abuse centers, WIC offices, various other women and children's agencies, and of course to individual families. Volunteers make it possible to provide a layette, consisting of quilts and blankets, receiving blankets, crib sheets, sleepers, gowns, caps, booties, and bibs as well as diapers, pacifiers, lotions and ointments when they have them. Since every child needs a toy, they also like to include a small stuffed animal. All items provided to these families are completely free of charge. A recent post on their Facebook page has the following request and information: “5930 South 58th Suite L is our location, stu-dio is open every Tuesday 10-3, bring a lunch or come for just a few hours. We desperately need volunteers to help sew quilts, fleece hats/mittens, Gowns, onesies & bibs. We have all the materials at the studio & most items are cut & ready to be sewn, if you know how to sew or know anyone please pass along our Facebook page! With Christmas ahead we have a hard time keep up with our requests.”

THIS MONTH WE HIGHLIGHT OUR REBELS MEMBER ’ S

Bob and Kathy Andrews

by Jim Jensen

Member at Large

Before we get into Bob’s 57 Chevy, it is a pleas-ure to write this article about Bob. I have known Bob since being kids and riding duttle bugs. Getting involved in the Rebels has brought me closer to special friends like Bob from the past. Also, congratulations to Bob and Kathy as they will celebrate 50 years of mar-riage in 2014. In 1963 Bob’s brother-in-law was looking for a family car. He found a 1957 Chevy listed for sale in the paper and asked Bob to go along to check it out. The couple selling the car (the original owners) had just retired and decided that they didn’t need more than one car. Bob told his brother-in-law that he thought it was really nice and if he didn’t buy it, he would. Bob’s brother-in-law bought the car and drove it for about nine years. When he found that it needed ex-pensive work including a new exhaust system to pass inspection, he parked it and bought another car. The Chevy was parked in a garage the first couple of years and then was moved to the back yard, where it was parked till 1985. By this time he decided he would probably never fix it up and asked Bob if he wanted it. After all that time parked under the elm trees you couldn’t even tell what color it was. The engine was also seized up. The Andrews bought the car and restoration got started. Bob pulled it home and began the work of restoring it. (his son was most disappointed that it wasn’t going to be made a pro-stocker.) Bob took the car completely apart, rebuilt the engine and transmis-sion, sand-blasted all the engine parts and painting them to their original color; replaced the head-liner and carpet, and recovered the seats; cleaned all the stainless molding putting it back together with new clips; renewed the whiskers around the windows and all the rubber and seals. Bob took the ‘57 to Bill’s Classics to be painted putting it back to it’s original color—Turquoise and India Ivory. The whole process of restoring the ‘57 took 4 to 5 years. The Andrews have enjoyed taking it to many car shows, poker runs and other road trips. The car has been driven on the Tour Nebraska Event. I hope you enjoy the pictures from the beginning of restoration until the present.

HOLIDAY PARTY

JANUARY 18

AT THE KNOLLS

2201 OLD CHENEY ROAD

COCKTAILS 5-6, DINNER WILL FOLLOW

Cost for Members $12, Non-Members $25

If you would like to participate in the gift exchange, bring a wrapped $15.00 gift.

GIFT EXCHANGE

Everyone wishing to participate brings a wrapped $15 gift. All of the

gifts are placed in a pile, separated into men & women’s, and all

participants are then given randomly assigned numbers. Then the

madness begins. The person who has the lowest number chooses a

gift from the pile, unwraps it, shows everyone, then the second

person has the option of either taking the first person’s already

opened gift, or unwrapping a new gift of their own. If someone’s

already unwrapped gift is taken from them they have the option of

taking someone else’s already unwrapped gift, or returning to the pile

of unwrapped gifts. This proceeds until all the numbers have been

drawn, all the gifts are unwrapped, and all the stealing has been

completed. ANY GIFT CAN ONLY BE “STOLEN” 3 TIMES TOTAL,

THE 4TH PERSON OWNS IT. The game ends with the participant

#1 having their selection of any gift, except for the “OWNED” ones.

Don’t be shy, the fun is in seeing how many times the favorites are

stolen.
