Dear children, parents and family members, A warm welcome to St. James’. We hope that your child is enjoying their start to our school; they certainly seemed to have settled well and are enjoying their time in our Reception area. Every time I visit they are busy building, cutting, sticking, playing with the trains and cars and enjoying the outdoor space. They have also visited all areas of the school. Such a brilliant start! Today they will have stayed for lunch and had some playtime and as they become more confi- dent Mrs. Price and the team will invite them to join the rest of the school—year 6 are definite- ly very excited to meet their buddies. (Every year our oldest children are buddied up with one of your children and play and learn with them, this is a very cherished tradition). As you and your child grow in confidence I hope that you will access the many events and op- portunities given to you at our school. You would have already been perhaps to Popcorn club and will be able to attend our EYFS parents’ meeting tonight. Please take some time to read all the information that you have been sent and ask any questions you wish. We are all here to make your transition to school as easy as possible. Dear children, parents and family members,

A warm welcome to St. James’. We hope that your child is enjoying their start to our school;

they certainly seemed to have settled well and are enjoying their time in our Reception area.

Every time I visit they are busy building, cutting, sticking, playing with the trains and cars and

enjoying the outdoor space. They have also visited all areas of the school. Such a brilliant start!

Today they will have stayed for lunch and had some playtime and as they become more confi-

dent Mrs. Price and the team will invite them to join the rest of the school—year 6 are definite-

ly very excited to meet their buddies. (Every year our oldest children are buddied up with one

of your children and play and learn with them, this is a very cherished tradition).

As you and your child grow in confidence I hope that you will access the many events and op-

portunities given to you at our school. You would have already been perhaps to Popcorn club

and will be able to attend our EYFS parents’ meeting tonight. Please take some time to read all

the information that you have been sent and ask any questions you wish. We are all here to

make your transition to school as easy as possible.

Our club list has been sent and clubs started on Monday 16th September, this is released three

times a year and events for Reception will appear later in the year. Dates for the year are dis-

played on our calendars and the Book Bag ( a place for all letters in the form of a Blog); both

can be found through our website: www.stjamescofeprimary.co.uk. I have attached our Dates

for the Diary which includes all dress up dates and assemblies too. Newsletters are sent out via

email once a fortnight on a PTA/School rotation and all other information will be emailed too.

There is a school Facebook page, a PTA one and numerous parent year group pages too; we

also use Twitter. The school like to share photos on Facebook and Twitter during events, chil-

dren with permission are always used. If you think you aren't getting email please check your

spam files and ensure that you allow [email protected] and pop in to tell

the office—they can check for you. This is being sent as a paper and electronic copy to make

sure you are aware!

I have attached some general information for you which should help find your feet.

Finally, St. James’ is a happy friendly school which truly is at the heart of the community – we

hope you and your children are very happy here!

Start of Term Arrangements...just a few things to remember

Start of term arrangements

Attendance

All children should enter school using the gate and make their way round onto the playground. The gate opens at 8:25 and will be locked at 8.40am (to allow parents time to leave after the 8:35 drop off time). If children arrive after the gates have been locked they should come to the school office or parents of younger children should bring their child to the office and a member of staff will then ensure that the children are taken to their classrooms.

Registration takes place between 8.35 am and 8.50 am for the morning session.

Pupils arriving during registration, i.e. after 8.35am will be marked late. Pupils arriving after the registration period is over will be marked with an unauthorised absence mark unless

there is an acceptable reason for lateness when they will be marked with an authorised absence mark.

Year Reception starting the day Please bring your child into the front Reception playground and wait for the staff to open the doors, staff will be able to answer any short questions at this point— we can always make you an appointment if you need more time or privacy. Staff will open the doors at 8:30am.

Communication with Teachers and the school

If you need to pass on a message to your child’s teacher in the mornings please speak to a member of the office staff and they will ensure that the teacher either receives the message, i.e. regarding a dental, medical appointment etc.

School uniform

The children have come back to school looking very smart in their uniforms. May I please remind parents of the im-portance of ensuring that all items of uniform are named; it is impossible to return unnamed uniform to its’ rightful owner and we really do not have enough space to store a lot of lost property. Any unclaimed, un-named lost property will be disposed of at the end of each half term. If your child has lost something, parents are welcome to look in the lost property box after school. This is located in the entrance hall. Please remember we do not allow any type of earring to be worn, those that have newly pierced ears may cover them with tape until they can take them out. A no earring policy ensures that all children at all times. Please come and speak with me if you have any concerns.

Nut Allergies

We currently have several children in school who have very severe nut allergies. May I please remind parents that they are asked not to provide peanut butter sandwiches, bags of peanuts (or mixed nuts) or other products which are obviously peanut based. I am aware that many food products display warnings such as ‘may contain traces of nuts’. Parents do not need to eliminate all of these from lunchboxes but be sensible. Please also remind your child that snacks should be: fruit, fruit based products e.g. fruit bars, bread sticks, cereal bars or similar. Freedom Friday is the only day that we allow other snacks. Any child bringing in crisps etc. on any other day will be asked to put them away. We hope to encourage healthy eating but also the ability for children to make choices and understand how balancing a diet works. PLEASE NO NUTS OR CHOCOLATE FOR SNACKS, OR NUTS IN SCHOOL.

Parent Helpers Wanted!

Can you spare a few hours each week, if so we

are looking for parents to help in school. Please

come to the office and let us know if your avail-

ability.

The children love having their parents helping in

school but sometimes its better if it’s a different

class.

Crisp packet and Pringles tub recy-

cling…

Thanks to Mrs Theyer and her knitting skills—the sale of

knitted ducks raised enough money to purchase two new

crisp recycling bins. KEEP RECYCLING!

Please look out for our Reception Curriculum evening and phonics evening (a maths evening will follow after Christmas)

Peripatetic music lessons Peripatetic music lessons are available in school for the following instruments; woodwind, brass, piano, drums, guitar and ukulele. Please collect a letter from the office if you are interested in your child beginning to learn—they usually start in Year 2 and above.

Promoting a love of reading across of school!
