Introduction… We are from the Boys’ Brigade 12th(I) Singapore company. Our goal is to show you the conditions that Singaporean

citizens who earn below the average income live in. We want to show you how many citizens, just because the

barely meet the average income rate, are neglected by charities as they are deemed by the government to be able to live a comfortable life.

Singapore Today… That picture was of a family of 7 living in a four-room HDB

flat. Mr Ang works as a driver and only earns $800 a month, while

his wife is a homemaker. In the family, 4 of their children are visually-impaired; 2 of the

oldest children attend daycare at the Singapore Association for the Visually Handicapped.

Their fourth child is studying in polytechnic and the other 2 have behavioral issues, which prevents them from further education.

Singapore Today… It’s these sort of people that many organizations are trying to

help to their best ability, those who truly need it. Our aim as a group is to do the same too; but we have a

different target audience. There are 105,000 households in the bottom 10% of the

income scale, the working poor, yet there is no readily available information on the number of retired and unemployed households that are struggling financially.

It is our aim to help those who do not meet the criteria to receive financial aid from the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

Singapore Today… Recently, the Straits Times had released an article, urging

the government to define poverty in Singapore. Mr Mohammed Faizal and his wife have 5 children, whose

ages range from 3 to 12. Although Mr Faizal has a monthly income of $2000, it is difficult for him as he has two jobs working as a security guard taking the night shift and a clerk during the day.

Mr Faizal works everyday to support his family and rarely do his children see him at home.

Organizations… Methodist Welfare Services is an organization that shares

similar values as us. Their aim is to be a leading organization that exemplifies

God’s love, enabling the poor and the needy to have life to the full.

Similarly, we also share the same vision in wanting to meet the poor’s physical needs and spread the gospel through such means.

These services are targeted at specific groups and have different schemes of work under it.

in Singapore truly need your support and every $ counts toward helping a family in need.
