For years we have been recognizing businesses and future community leaders for accomplishments in their industries, supporting their community and their amazing personal en-deavors. This year’s group of business winners is a great mix of large and small, and emerging and established businesses in vari-ous industries. In addition to recognizing our award winners, we will highlight the Chamber’s accomplishments over the past

fiscal year and enjoy a brief program from James Hallmark, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for the Texas A&M Uni-versity System. Advance reservations are required for this event. SHOP AMARILLO

Looking for the perfect place to purchase clothing and gift items with the official Amarillo boot logo? It’s as close as your computer (or mobile device). Just go to www.visitamarillo.com/store and you can shop for all the Amarillo logo’d items you and your family and friends need. “These items are great gifts for everyone, from family and friends to clients and employees. We are so happy to offer them to Ama-rillo and the world,” Dan Quandt, Vice President of the Amarillo Convention & Visitor Council, says. “And this shop is the only place in town to get the official Amarillo boot logo that everyone knows and enjoys.” The CVC e-store is easy to use, just like online shopping experi-ences all of us have enjoyed in recent years. It features the inven-tory that the CVC Visitor Information Center gift shop has offered the past few years. The office also has refreshed the inventory to be more than just t-shirts, explains Kashion Smith, Director of Tourism at the CVC. “It includes clothing, toys, jewelry and much more. It blends the boot logo, state of Texas and Route 66 as well. Shoppers can pay for their items with MasterCard, Visa or American Express. The items can be shipped anywhere in the US or the purchaser can pick them up later in the Visitor Information Center, located next to entrance #2 of the Amarillo Civic Center Complex,” Smith ex-plains Stumped on what to get? Call the VIC at 806-374-8474 and ask one of the counselors about gift baskets or themed gifts. Christmas is just a couple months away.

Editor’s Corner By: Penni Bentley Senior Communications Director [email protected]

Many of you see the staff member names on the cover of our newsletter or recognize a few faces out in the community, but we want to

acknowledge there are so many more people that make things happen at the Chamber. We are not simply a staff of about 20, we are an army of volunteers

and committee members, and most importantly, our members of the Board of Directors. October 1st will mark the beginning of a new year at the Chamber, and with that beginning, we will welcome some great community leaders to take a seat at the board table to tackle the coming year’s projects, fundraisers, and important issues that affect all of our more

than 1,700 members and the 69,000+ employees they represent. The Chamber’s 36 Board of Directors and Executive Committee members come from a variety of businesses, industries and organizations both large and small. They serve from one to three -year appointments typically, investing more than just their time. They not only sit through board meetings throughout the year, but also serve on additional councils, sponsor events, and participate in our activities representing the Chamber many times before their own busi-ness interests. And when challenges or tough decisions arise, they are quick to show support, open discussions and provide counsel to ensure the best interest of YOU...our members...is the primary focus. We are proud to have had the following Board members serve this great organization, and thank them for their service as they retire from their positions within the Chamber.

Retiring Board Members: Fredia Allen, Retiree Upshaw Insurance Agency

Roy Bara, La Fiesta Grande Bobby Cooper, Amarillo Truck Center

Boyd Johnston, Johnston Homes Shawn Morrison, Budweiser Distributing Company

Don Treadway, American Quarter Horse Association

We look forward to new and exciting things with the following new appointments to the Chamber:

Welcome 3-Year Term Board Members: Carrie Irwin, Suddenlink

Sherry Kunka, Sharyland Utilities

Shannon Massey, Bell Helicopter Greg Meador, Plains Dairy

Garry Rich, Pro Chem Sales Joe Street, Street Auto Group

Toby Tucker, Amarillo Thunderhead Baseball & Amarillo Venom

New Executive Committee Member: Chris Reed, Reed Beverage (Membership Chair)

Get ready for an exciting new year of activities and events. We’re looking forward to meeting more of you face-to-face. As always, tell us how we are doing. Give us your suggestions, feedback, and input. Feel free to write on our Facebook wall. Get involved. We are proud to be YOUR Chamber.
