Recording with Panopto
Download Panopto as per the instructions in the “Downloading Panopto” document
Open the Panopto application from your desktop or application tray, from which the following screen will appear
Select “Sign in using AUT Blackboard” and follow the prompts to log in using your Blackboard account Once signed in, select “Create New Recording” to be brought to the main recording interface

Opening Panopto
Above: This is the main Panopto “Create New Recording” interface Firstly check you are recording into the correct folder
The folder indicates what course this video will be recorded to, and where it will be visible on Blackboard
Choose the correct course by searching for the paper code, or select “My Folder” to create a private recording you can share later
Once selected, name your recording to whatever is suitable – such as “Week 10, Lecture 3” etc
Creating a Recording

Check you input sources You must select the relevant camera (if using one), microphone and screen/s you would like to be captured “Secondary 1” refers to the primary display “Secondary 2” only applies if you have a second monitor connected “Record PowerPoint” saves your presentation slides with the recording

Please note, you must have a microphone connected in
order to start any recording
Drop down menus display available video and audio sources
Screens that will be captured with the recording. The default is “Main Screen” and “PowerPoint”
Before starting the recording, it is advisable to view the resolution settings Resolution refers to the overall sharpness of the screen recording. Generally speaking, the higher the resolution, the higher the image quality The higher the fps (framerate), the better motion will be captured

These are the recommended Mac settings for capturing high quality stills, such as PowerPoint
To start your recording, press the record button Panopto is now recording the primary sources and secondary sources you previously selected, and you can begin your lecture/recording as per normal To stop your recording, simply hit the stop button (where the record button used to be). If you wish to pause mid-recording, you can do this by selecting the pause button
Pausing mid-recording is helpful for taking a break, excluding a particular segment from a recording such as a
Q&A, or correcting an issue before you continue

To access the resolution settings on Mac operating systems, you must open the “Preferences” menu
Once stopped, you will be prompted to double check the name and description of the recording as seen below before selecting “Upload”
Once you click “Upload”, Panopto will now automatically show you the progress of the upload in a new tab called “Manage Recordings” At this stage you are finished, Panopto will automatically upload this recording in the background

On AUT’s network You must wait until the recording has finished uploading before closing Panopto, otherwise it will not upload correctly On private networks For personal home networks, you can close Panopto before the recording has finished uploading. It will continue to upload in the background You will receive an email notifying you when the recording has completed uploading. The notification will be sent to your AUT email The recording will be viewable in the Panopto gallery of your Blackboard course – see the “Sharing options in Panopto” document for more information
