Keep Costs Down...Recycle

Did you know it costs less to recycle than to send these items to the landfill? One important part of recycling is to make

sure only CLEAN RECYCLABLES are placed in the recycling cart. Below is a quick reference chart from Republic Services.

Yard of the Month Contest Winners

Every year the citizens of Maiden work hard to

get their lawns and gardens ready for the summer and

compete in the Yard of the Month Contest.

The Yard of the Month Winner for May 2019 is Michael and

Sherri Aguero. June’s winners were David and Glenda

Frye. Congratulations! The contest will continue through

September.

The Recreation Department continues to offer year round activities for the whole family.

The Co-Ed Kickball League continues to be a huge suc-cess. An organizational meeting will be held in July. Other

activities at the Rec include Zumba, Tumbling and Karate

Classes. For more information, contact the Rec at

828-428-5022.

Many thanks to the Baseball, Softball and

Tee ball coaches: Tim Douglas, Grant Rembert, Donna

Sherrill, Scott Carpenter, Brandon Finger, Tim Woodliff, Scott Strait, Jason Bailes, Brandon Helms, Mark Frasure, Brett Beal, Robert Levefers, John Bumgarner, Jerry Whitener and Brent Taillon. Without these dedicated volunteers our sports programs would not be possible.

Curbside Pick Up

Please keep in mind if your leaf bag is too heavy to lift it’s also too heavy for Town Staff to pick up. The clear bags are for leaves and grass clip-

pings, not mulch or sticks. The Town does not pick up pallets or excessive amounts of card-

board.

Do you know why fertilizers and grass clippings don’t belong in the storm drain? Fertilizers cause algae blooms which can kill fish and other wildlife in our

creeks and streams. Grass clippings clog storm drains causing them to malfunction during heavy rains.
