Please remember that the Rho Gammas and the Panhellenic Executives are here as a resource to you.

If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please do not hesitate to approach any member of the Panhellenic team.

Sororities offer undergraduates a wealth of experiences, opportunities and knowledge. Keep an open mind and enjoy this exciting process!

Recruitment is for you to determine whether joining a sorority is right for you and if so, which house is the proper fit. Membership in a sorority is completely voluntary and determined by a process of mutual selection that takes into account both the potential new member’s and the houses’ preferences.

RECRUITMENT 101: Everything you need to know…

1

ARRIVING AT RECRUITMENT

You must attend each round in order to complete the recruitment process and potentially be offered a bid.

Please arrive on time, according to the schedule. Rho gammas will escort Potential New Members or so called PNMs to all of the houses for each round. Please do not go to any of the sorority houses unless escorted by a member of the Panhellenic team.

The two weeks of recruitment consist of four rounds of events that will allow you to learn more about each sorority. As the sororities are narrowing down the number of women attending each round of events, PNMs may only accept a certain number of invitations to each round.

Participation in Formal Recruitment does not guarantee you an invitation to join a sorority, nor does it obligate a woman to join.

RHO GAMMA GROUPS

Every potential new member will be put in a Rho Gamma group. Your Rho Gamma is a girl chosen from a sorority who has agreed to disaffiliate from her chapter and guide you through recruitment. She will bring you to the houses, answer your questions and be a great support system through the process.

ROUND 1

Every PNM will visit all of the 4 houses with their Rho Gamma group.

2

Once PNMs finish visiting all the houses, they must return to the Arts Building with their Rho Gamma to rank.

INVITATIONAL ROUND

After Round 1, you will be invited to return to 1-3 houses for the Invitational Round. Panhellenic executives will notify PNMs as to which houses they will be returning to.

You must return to every house that you are invited back to, in order to advance to Preference Night.

Once PNMs finish visiting each of the houses they have been invited back to, they must return to the Arts Building with their Rho Gamma group to rank.

PREFERENCE NIGHT

PNMs will be invited to return to 1-2 houses on Preference Night and will be told which house(s) they are returning to on the night of the parties.

After PNMs have visited the house(s) they have been invited back to, they must return to the Arts Building to give their final ranking and sign the Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA), escorted by Rho Gammas.

BID DAY

On Bid Day, PNMs will receive a bid from one of the four houses. After PNMs receive their bids they will join their houses for the rest of the day.

Enjoy recruitment and we hope to soon welcome you as our newest Panhellenic sisters!

Additional Information

Financial obligations

• Τhere is a registration fee of $5 for recruitment. This fee is to be paid in cash on Orientation Day.

• Each sorority has membership dues that cover certain activities, events and other fees. Each sorority will present the details of these financial obligations during recruitment.

• It is estimated that the average membership dues for the academic year 2014-2015 will be: o Total: $ 996.00

− Fall: $536.00 − Winter: $430.00

• Please note that part of these membership dues is a one-time New Member fee that is charged only in the first semester, which is why the dues will generally decrease in the following semesters.

• If you have any questions or concerns about the financial obligations of joining a sorority, please contact a member of the Panhellenic team, speak with your Rho Gamma or ask sorority members during recruitment events.

Hazing policy

• Τhe McGill Panhellenic Council has a strict no hazing policy: all forms of hazing are banned.

• Hazing is defined as: “ any action or situation with or without consent which recklessly, intentionally or unintentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, or creates risk of injury, or causes discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule or which willfully destroys or removes public or private property for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in a chapter or colony of an NPC member fraternity .”

MRABA signing

• Stands for Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement

• Signing the MRABA means you are willing to accept an invitation to membership from any sorority that you list.

• If you refuse a bid offered by a chapter listed on your MRABA, you may not pledge another group until the next Formal recruitment.

• You may however pledge the chapter that originally extended the bid ONLY IF the chapter extends another bid.
