Establishing shotAn establishing shot contains a large amount of landscape. It is often used at the beginning of a scene or a film to establish general location (setting).
![Page 7: Re@ct FIlm Festival Workshop 2 june 2011](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051514/549ae6e6b4795915098b461b/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Long ShotA long shot gives the audience more detail about a scene. A long shot may show the audience the building where the action will take place.
![Page 8: Re@ct FIlm Festival Workshop 2 june 2011](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051514/549ae6e6b4795915098b461b/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Medium ShotA medium shot is taken from the knees/waist up.
From this shot, viewers can see the characters faces more clearly as well as their interaction with other characters. It can also be used during a conversation between two people.
![Page 9: Re@ct FIlm Festival Workshop 2 june 2011](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051514/549ae6e6b4795915098b461b/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Close-upA close-up contains just one character’s face. This enables the audience to understand the actor’s emotions and also allows them to feel empathy for the character.
![Page 10: Re@ct FIlm Festival Workshop 2 june 2011](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051514/549ae6e6b4795915098b461b/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Extreme Close-upAn extreme close-up contains one part of a character’s face or other object. This technique is quite common in horror films and creates an intense mood.
