TRANSCRIPT
“And behold, I am coming soon.
Blessed is the one who keeps the
words of the prophecy of this
book.” (Revelation 22:7, ESV)
As we have been studying the book
of REVELATION at Redeemer, we are
learning that there is much comfort
and hope for the believer in the last
book of the Bible… but there is also
much warning. In John’s Revelation,
believers are warned to stay active
in the spiritual battle. We find great
strength in knowing that the Lord
and His army are victorious on the
Last Day, and that all those who
have faith in Christ are saved. But
we also see that there will be great
destruction and punishment for
those who reject the Lord.
Therefore, as Christians we are
compelled to continue sharing the
saving Gospel of Jesus, and to bring
more people to Christ to be saved.
And so our ministry as a
“lighthouse” in Carlsbad becomes
even more critical, as we realize that
the Lord will be returning for
judgment soon (Rev. 22:7, above).
We cannot afford to spin our wheels
… or worse … fall asleep at the wheel! Rather, we must be
careful to ensure that any and all of our ministry effort is
directed at Gospel-oriented mission that will bring both
the sobering awareness of God’s Law, as well as the
soothing comfort of Christ’s Gospel and His free gift of
salvation. Quite simply, we must work to make our
ministry count!
We need to ask ourselves if what we are doing in ministry
is just activity … or is it mission? Since we know that the
Lord will separate the wheat from the weeds on Judgment
Day (Matthew 13:24-30), we cannot allow ourselves to just
be busy between now and then. It is a challenging truth
that activity does not equal effectiveness. We have to
continually ask ourselves how any program or event at
Redeemer either brings the light of Jesus to people, or
brings people to the light of Jesus - that's what being a
lighthouse to the community and the world means.
Often you may hear me express it this way: we need to
“do fewer things better.” This is a direct challenge for us
to make our ministry count. We don’t want to just fill our
calendars with events and programs that are familiar and
“easy,” we want to find ourselves working together on the
kinds of things that really make a Kingdom difference –
and require all of us working together to make happen.
This is our challenge.
At Redeemer, like most churches, it is difficult to give up
something good to make room for something better. I
believe that when do, however, we will find that several
good things happeni:
Our volunteers are spread less thin. They have
margin in their schedule for family and ministry.
Our members and leaders are healthier. When we
are focusing on too many things, too many
events, and too many meetings, we have less
time for personal health and relationships.
We experience excellence rather than mediocrity.
If we focus on too many ministries and programs,
usually all of them become average (or worse),
but none of them become excellent.
We better communicate the urgency and
significance of our mission. With too many
messages coming from our church, our
community and our own members don’t know
what we’re all about.
We are freer to live out our identity in Christ.
With less busy activity our members are able to
build relationships with people outside our
church who need Jesus.
May more souls be in heaven on the Last Day because of
the work that we do today. - Pastor Augie

MAKING MINISTRY COUNT! Pastor Augie
SUNDAY SCHOOL Rhonda Sutherlin
YOUTH MINISTRY Jeff Moeller
Rockin’ Rally Sunday was a big success! The children shared what they learned this
past year by performing a skit with “Gordy”, the Sunday School Mascot and singing
one of their favorite songs – The Butterfly Song.
Over the past several weeks the children worked hard on projects
designed by Kathy Hemphill telling the story of what “God is…”. We
had a lot of fun this past year learning and growing together and now
we are ready for a new year to begin. In case you
didn’t get a chance to meet the teachers, here they
are:
Prek – K: Clare Donovan & Tanya Finnerty
Grades 1–3: Bonnie Shanahan & Laura Cline
Grades 4-5: Shelley Lynaugh & Kim Glassman
Substitute: Elizabeth Denton
Large Group: Suzan Colgan
Please stop by anytime to meet the teachers & get to
know them. We also had several classroom assistants &
large group participants that I would like to acknowledge:
Deo & Tessia Iadicicco
Karissa Lynaugh
Rachel & Chloe Swick
Matt & Mitch Batherson
Tori Hemphill
And to all the others who chipped in when help was needed – thank you.
If you would like to be a part of the Sunday School Program in any way, please do
not hesitate to let me know. Thanks so much.

UPDATE — FAMILY MINISTRY STAFF ADDITION Dan Bitner
Our Call Committee met one last time
to discuss the welcome plans Jeff and
while the installation service has not
yet occurred, we feel the work of the
committee is otherwise complete. As
far as the timing for the installation,
you will be hearing about that soon
trough the normal channels.
I know I speak for the committee when
I say it has been a blessing to be part
of this important step in Redeemers
journey. Now, as new plans are
developed to help grow our Family
Ministry, it’s up to us all to lend a hand
by providing the support needed.
Your Call Committee: Bobbie
Ankenbrandt, Joe Flatt, Lori Batherson;
Rhonda Sutherlin (co-chair), Shelley
Lynaugh and ex officio members Pastor
Augie and Dan Bitner (co-chair).
The last of the acoustic panels has now
been installed and I know we are all
enjoying the improved quality of the
new sound system. The next item on
our plans is the design and remodel of
the Choir / Band area. We are
contacting a local Church that has the
same ‘shared’ space issues that we
have and we will be visiting them soon.
The goal is to make it easier to change
from the Traditional Choir setting to
Contemporary Band setup, while
enhancing the look of the area. In
addition, we plan to review the
possibility of adding a loop-system
that transmits the sound in a way
compatible with modern hearing aids.
Your Sound Improvement Committee:
Buck Lehmann, Gary Wilson, Jim
Mullen, Jo Voertman, Joe Flatt, Jordan
Fletcher, Ken Voertman, and Lyle
Meyer.

Have you seen the news lately? It is so sad and
upsetting to see Christians being slaughtered and run
out of the Middle East. They are truly paying a heavy
price and making a very significant sacrifice for their
faith. We are so blessed in America to have freedom of
religion! We have it so good that, in many cases, we
take it for granted. We, as Christians in America, have
the opportunity to also make sacrifices for our faith.
Our sacrifices are in the form of giving a portion of our
financial resources and the use of our time and talents.
Would you agree that due to the lack of adversity and/
or our level of living, many of us minimize the
importance in the way we make our sacrifices to our
Lord? Reflect upon our Christians in the Middle East
and the suffering they are enduring for their faith.
They have no possessions but the clothes on their
back. Yes, many of them have paid the ultimate price of
dying for their faith. Pray for these people and may the
Lord help them through their difficult times. Just
remember, that freedom of religion is not free! We all
need to make sacrifices to help our faith grow and not
take it for granted that it will always be there!
