La produzione di questo modello (Ø 38 mm.) si presume che inizi alla �ne del 1954, dopo l’interruzione della commercializzazione della ref. 6204, e termina nel 1959. Porta la referenza 6538 ed è garantito impermeabile �no a 200 metri di profondità. È mosso dal calibro di base 1030 (lo stesso delle referenze: 6536-6536/1-6538 A) che gli fa perdere quella leggera bombatura al fondello; la corona di carica rimane la stessa del 6200, la Twinlock “BREVET” da 8 mm. di diametro. Il quadrante ha una minuteria chiusa, la scritta SWISS in riferimento delle ore 6, lancette di tipo “Mercedes” e mon-ta un vetro in plexiglass “Tropic” appartenente al gruppo 17 (fanno parte di questo gruppo anche le referenze: 5510-6200).Il modello fotografato, che risale al 1956, presenta una lunetta girevole bidireziona-le con l’indicazione dei minuti intermedi tra 1 e 15, il triangolo di colore rosso con al centro il pallino luminescente e un quadrante con gra�ca oro con la profondità 200/660 senza la speci�ca dei metri e dei “feet”. La sfera delle ore delle lancette “Mer-cedes” è di tipo “corto” e quella dei secondi presenta il dischetto luminoso grande (de�nito dai collezionisti “Lollypop”).Questo Submariner poteva essere equipaggiato dai seguenti bracciali:ref. 7206 Oyster “Flush�t” a maglie rivettate, in acciaioref. 6636 Oyster “Flush�t” a maglie rivettate estensibili in acciaio.

The production of this model (Ø 38 mm) is presumed to have started at the end of 1954, after the sale of the ref. 6204 was interrupted, and ends in 1959. It has the reference 6538 and is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 200 meters. The movement is the base caliber 1030 (the same as for references: 6536-6536/1-6538 A) so the case back loses that slight roundness; the winding crown remains the same as in the 6200, the 8 mm diameter Twinlock “BREVET”. The dial has a closed minute track, the writing SWISS at 6 o’clock, “Mercedes” style hands and is �tted with a Plexiglas “Tropic” crystal belonging to the group 17 (this group also includes the references: 5510-6200). The model in the photograph, dating back to 1956, has a bidirectional rotating bezel with minute markers between 1 and 15, the red color triangle with the

luminous dot in the center and a gilt dial, with depth rating 200/660 without speci�cation of meters or feet. The “Mercedes” hour hand is the “short” type

and the second hand has the large luminous circle (called “Lollypop” by collectors).

This Submariner watch could have been equipped with the following bracelets:ref. 7206 riveted link Oyster “Flush�t”, in stainless steelref. 6636 riveted link expanding Oyster “Flush�t” in stainless steel.

Nel 1969 Rolex introduce per la prima volta una versione del Subma-riner Date interamente in oro giallo 18 carati, contraddistinto dalla referenza 1680/8. La referenza tra le anse e sul fondello rimane sem-pre 1680, come per l’acciaio, solo sui cataloghi per le forniture e nelle distinte dei prezzi riporta 1680/8 (nel codice dei metalli della Rolex il numero otto corrisponde all’oro giallo 18 carati). Il quadrante e la lunetta sono realizzate in due colori: nero e blu. Questo Submariner Date monta lo stesso calibro della versione in acciaio: il cal. 1575, un derivato dal calibro 1530, e poteva essere commercializzato con due cinturini in pelle e una �bbia in oro 18 ct. o con il bracciale in oro giallo 18 carati con referenza 9290.L’esemplare fotografato, nella versione cromatica blu con l’impermeabi-lità espressa in 660ft=200m, è accompagnato dal bracciale in oro gial-lo 18 ct. con ref. 9290: un bracciale Oyster Fliplock munito di lamine che permettono di portare l’orologio sulla muta per l’immersione.

For the �rst time in 1969, Rolex introduces a Submariner Date version completely in 18 carat yellow gold, marked with the ref. 1680/8. The reference between the lugs and on the case back still remains 1680, like the stainless steel model; only in the spare parts catalogues and price lists, Rolex indicates it with 1680/8 (in the Rolex metal code the number eight corresponds to the 18 carat yellow gold). The dial and the bezel are produced in two colors: black and blue. This Submariner Date bears the same caliber as the one of the stainless steel version: the cal. 1575, based on the caliber 1530, and could have been marketed either with two leather straps and one 18 ct gold buckle or with an 18 carat yellow gold bracelet with reference 9290.The example in the photograph, in the blue chromatic variant with

depth rating 660ft=200m, is �tted with the 18 ct yellow gold ref. 9290: an Oyster Fliplock bracelet with diver extension which allows it to

be worn over a wetsuit.

Presentato alla Fiera di Basilea del 2003, la re-ferenza 16610LV, ovvero il “GREEN”, diventerà da subito protagonista incontrastato del mercato. Tutti i “Green” montano la nuova cassa con ref. 16610T (fori ciechi), l’unico LV con i fori passanti è il prototipo presentato a Basilea.

The “maxi dial” and the green bezel characterize this SUBMARINER model, which was chosen by Rolex to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Introduced at Baselworld 2003, the reference 16610LV, namely the “GREEN”, will immediately become the undisputed protagonist of the market. All “Green” watches bear the new case with ref. 16610T (sunken holes), the only LV with through holes is the prototype presented at Basel.

Il SEA-DWELLER, sicuramente il modello più professionale fra gli oro-logi subacquei dell’epoca, presenta una lunetta girevole bidirezio-nale e monta un vetro “Tropic” (senza lente ciclope) appartenente al gruppo 39, caratterizzato dal tipico pro�lo bombato, de�nito suc-cessivamente dai collezionisti “CUPOLONE”. Questo cronometro-calendario a carica automatica è controllato uf�cialmente e garantito impermeabile �no a 610 m. di profondità. In ottimo stato di conser-vazione questo Sea-Dweller in versione “doppia scritta rossa-Mk. 1”: caratterizzato dalle scritte che tendono a scolorire �no a quasi diven-tare bianche. Le casse con questa tipologia di quadrante sono ancora del primo tipo: cassa bassa o “thin” e il fondello riporta la dicitura PATENT PENDING con la scritta ROLEX di traverso.

The SEA-DWELLER, undoubtedly the most professional model among the diver’s watches of the period, has a bidirectional rotating bezel and bears a “Tropic” crystal (without Cyclops lens) belonging to the group 39 and characterized by its typical domed shape, later called “SUPERDOME” (“CUPOLONE” by Italian collectors). This selfwinding chronometer-calendar, is of�cially certi�ed and guaranteed waterproof to 610 m. This Sea-Dweller with “double red writing-Mk.1” is in very good condition: it features the wording which fades becoming almost white. Cases with this kind of dial are still from the �rst series: thin case and case back carrying the wording PATENT PENDING, with straight ROLEX inscription.
