Best of Awards by Category

ACE of ACES

BEST Working Man

SALUTE TO

This category is only open to winners of regional and/or national contests. Models entered in this category will compete separately from general participants in RDUCON 2020. The winner will be selected by ballots cast by the RDUCON 2020 show guest.

With a contest theme of “Need for Speed” how can you not showcase the aircraft of these iconic movies? Well here’s your chance! This award will recognize the best of the best aircraft of Top Gun, and entries can be from the films, or aircraft assigned to the Naval Weapons Training School in any scale. There are only 2 require-ments: 1) you must use decals/markings from the movies or NWTS and 2) you need to select this option on the model entry form to qualify. Let’s see those F-14’ s, F-18’s, A-4’s and any other aggressor aircraft!

This category is specifically meant to highlight support and/or maintenance vehicles that keep the front line vehicles going. It’s about the guys who make it happen: so bring your bulldozers, tractors, fuel supply, and other construction vehicles and give these models the recogntion they deserve!

To qualify in this category, the modeler must enter a trio of models comprising of a 1/35 tank, a 1/72 aircraft and a 1/24 or 1/25 car. All 3 models will be judged as a group, and must be displayed together as a group.

This category will recognize the “off beat”, lesser known AFV. Entrants for this special award cannot be based on any M4 Sherman, or any variant thereof. Be sure to select this option on the model entry form to qualify.

This category will recognize little known, often overlooked aircraft. The quirkier, the better! Be sure to select this option on the model entry form to qualify.

ELIGIBILITY All entrants must be registered. Absentee entries will be accepted if registered under the builders name-registration fees apply. All entries must be the sole work of the builder listed on the entry form. Membership in IPMS/USA is not required. The contest is open to all models except those that have won any award at an IPMS National Convention, or a 1st place in a IPMS Regional Convention or are Factory assembled & finished (i.e. die-cast collector cars & trucks, aircraft, armor, figures, etc.)

GUIDELINES Pre-painted entries will be allowed ONLY in the junior categories. Modelers of any age may enter any category except those designated for juniors. Entrants in Junior Categories are for modelers 17 years and under only. Again, no die-cast and/or repurposed die-cast models. models. The Head Judge may exclude/remove any entry considered to be inappropriate or offensive. No one will be allowed to enter the contest area prior to registering ALL their entries. Reasonably sized bases are allowed in all categories, but will not be judged, except in the diorama categories. For powered entries, and/or bases exceeding 300 sq. inches, you must contact us in advance as contest space is limited.

Decal ConsiderationsWe are fortunate that our hobby offers prolific, high quality decal options for nearly all genres. Based on individual cultural experience, the sub-jects replicated with some decals may be offensive. The Eagle Squadron critically evaluates the merits of each entry to ensure no obscene subject is placed on the viewing tables. The leadership of the Eagle Squadron reserves the right to deny any entry. But, censorship and the sanitation of history is not the intent. The general rule will be: if the entry is historically accurate, the decals will be allowed. As a diverse society we some-times must accept uncomfortable truths.

Category Selection The Entrant will determine the category of each of their entries. If there is doubt as to the appropriate category, the Registrar may provide assistance. A model can only be entered into a single category. At the time of judging, the Head Judge will make the final decision if changes are necessary. All decisions of the judges are final. Attempts to influence the judges will result in immediate disqualification from all categories entered. No judge may rule on a category in which they are entered. Out-of-the-Box (OOB) entries MUST include kit plans with entry. Special award categories may be subject to additional requirements. Please visit IPMSEAGLESQUADRON.ORG for complete details.

Support Models for TroopsModels for Troops provides the active duty and medically retired US military community with plastic model kits of all scales and subject matter for free.

Model making is a form of therapy that helps veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI and other post-combat related issues refocus the mind’s attention.

Since 2012, over 6,000 lbs of kits and building supplies have shipped out thanks to generous donations collected at model contests and from individual donors.

You can help by donating new kits, supplies and/or financial contributions during RDUCON. 100% goes to Models for Troops, a 501(c)(3), and all donations made today are fully tax-deductible.
