BU 699-C International Business Strategy 1 CH Instructor: Benjamin de Seille, M.S. Course Description: This one credit course aims to sharpen your knowledge of international business leadership. Skills that make a player successful in his domestic market may be the very reason for failure when approaching international clients. Success in global markets today is mainly about cross cultural skills, true flexibility and personal capacity to navigate the complexities of multidimensional foreign markets. Adapt your knowledge to quickly understand a multicultural situation will make the difference abroad, sometimes even more than your value proposition. In order to make those leadership competences a natural reflex, we will together gain new perspectives and expertise, benchmarking your individual management style against practical business cases from around the world.

FN 662 Corporate Finance 3 CH Instructor: Jos van Bommel, Ph.D., MBA, M.S. Prerequisite: WGB 603 Course Description: This course is designed to provide a practical application of corporate finance skills in analyzing a variety of corporate restructuring transactions such as Initial Public Offerings, Mergers and Acquisitions, Leveraged Buy-outs, Bankruptcy, and other complex financial restructuring transactions. The course is challenging, time-consuming, but also fun. Students will gather data, build and apply real life models used by consulting firms, investment banks, and corporate finance analysts. Apart from analyzing case studies, students will spend a considerable amount of time doing instead of seeing. As in real life, there will be considerable team work. Student-teams will gather and analyze data, construct reports, fairness opinions, and prospectuses, and deliver presentations to investors, managers, boards, and judges. Learning will take place via lectures, class discussions, and role-play exercises.

FN 674 Advanced Risk Management 3 CH Instructor: Thomas Schröeder, Ph.D., Ph.D. Course Description: The complexity of the global financial system makes understanding risk management essential for anyone working in, or planning to work in, the financial sector. As the real economy is also exposed to financial risk, risk management has become more important to non-financial corporates and institutions. Students will become familiar with financial risk assessment and management and the regulations applicable for financial institutions. They will learn how important market participants, such as banks, insurance companies, pension funds, mutual and hedge funds, are looking at risk measurement and management. Risk mitigation strategies are explained. Various risk types such as market risk (interest rate risk, cross-currency risk, etc.), credit risk, operational risk, systemic risk are covered and risk management strategies and instruments are analyzed. Recent risk management topics such as counterparty credit risk for derivatives, central clearing and collateralization will be covered.

FN 699 Finance & Business in Emerging Markets – ASIA TRIP 2018 3 CH Instructor: Dr. Alfred Steinherr, Ph.D. Course Description: While the emerging market is not a novel development—every developed market was at one time an emerging market—its importance has grown enormously with the growth of China, India, Russia, Brazil and a host of smaller countries, more than 3.5 billion new consumers and producers, and the relative stagnation of developed markets, in particular European markets. Not only has it become almost irresistible to businesses as a new source of consumer demand and productive capacity, but is has begun to create their own set consumer demand of world-class competitors, swallowing up companies in the developed world.
