Description

Files from AFIP's Registry of Noteworthy Research in Pathology, a collection of research materials and publications. Includes administrative records; books, reprints, and pamphlets; manuscripts, notes, photographs; microscope and lantern slides; paraffin blocks; charts and case histories; newspaper clippings, and biographical information. Records are arranged alphabetically by name. Artifacts are in Historical and Anatomical Collections. Cataloged in NUCMC.

The first folder under the pathologists’ names lists the materials that were received by the Registry, and, if one was assigned, shows the accession numbers assigned to each item. Where the item’s description was present in the records, it is listed below by its accession number and description as transcribed from the original folders, followed by any needed clarification. If an item was not in the records it was not included in the finding aid, regardless if it had been assigned an accession number; however, if an empty folder existed for a pathologist or an item, it is listed but noted as empty. One box of 13 lantern slides ("Gorgas") from the University of Pennsylvania depicting scenes from Panama and San Salvador. A note accompanying the slides says they were gotten for Dr. Vacuri Lantern slides. One box of 105 "Gorgas material" lantern slides on sanitary conditions in the Panama Canal Zone, dating from 1904 to about 1913. A few are hand-tinted. Many slides are credited to A.W. French, Ancon, Canal Zone and at least one to William H. Rau. They were donated to the Medical Museum by Dr. Stanhope Bayne-Jones. The slides were removed from the original carrying case and rehoused. An itemized list of the slides is available in the box. Lantern slides.
