B. Update on Provincial Initiatives

Honourable S. Anderson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Leduc-Beaumont, made a presentation to Council on current provincial initiatives. Hon. S. Anderson answered Council’s questions. Council members thanked the Hon. S. Anderson for taking the time to make the presentation to Council.

MOVED by Councillor G. Finstad that Council receives the Update on Provincial Initiatives report as information.

Motion Carried Unanimously

C. Leduc Non-Profit Executive Working Group Update

N. Laing, Executive Director, Leduc Foundation and S. Bissell, Executive Director, Leduc Boys & Girls Club, representing the Leduc Non-Profit Executive Working Group, made a PowerPoint presentation (Attached) on the work being done by the non-profit groups in Leduc. N. Laing and S. Bissell answered Council’s questions. Council members thanked the groups for the work done in the community.

VII. BUSINESS

A. Special Council Meeting

MOVED by Councillor G. Finstad that Council hold a Special Council Meeting on March 14, 2017, at the Nisku Recreation Centre commencing at 6 p.m., to be held concurrently with Leduc County Council Meeting.

Motion Carried Unanimously

VIII. BYLAWS

A. Bylaw No. 945-2017 – Redistricting Leduc Business Park Stage 10 (Part of NE ¼ 1-50-25-W4) (1st Reading)

Administration recommends Bylaw No. 945-2017 receive first reading.

MOVED by Councillor G. Finstad that Bylaw No. 945-2017 receive First Reading.

Motion Carried Unanimously

Purpose and Function

• To provide the opportunity for City of Leduc based charitable organizations

to work together in a manner which is collaboratively and cooperatively.

• To provide a forum for the sharing of information.

• To provide mutual support and assistance to one another.

• To share resources and decrease potential duplications of effort and service.

• To create greater community awareness of the supports, services and needs

of the member charitable organizations.

Criteria for Membership

• Be a registered, not-for-profit organization with CRA charitable

designation.

• Have at least one, paid staff member.

• Operate under the authority of an independent Board of Directors.

• Provide services that address a human or social need (not

recreational) to clients living in the City and/or County of Leduc.

Goals for Tonight's Presentation

• To open a dialogue between local charities and the City of Leduc for the sharing of information and expertise.

• To explore new opportunities to work in partnership with the City of Leduc, in service to the community.

• To reinforce and reiterate the value that local charities add to the community.

• To explore the needs and challenges faced by local charities (and possible solutions).

Connections to the City of Leduc

What We Provide

• Essential services to members of the community (often the most vulnerable).

• Local, accessible, community based supports based on identified need.

• Pro-active, early intervention and prevention which decreases the need for costly crisis intervention

• Contribute to the ideal of Leduc as a "Caring Community".

What We Receive

• Funding (through Grants to Organizations, Service Agreement or Requisition)

▪ Varied support from City of Leduc staff and departments

• Tickets for purchase to Volunteer Appreciation
