Jeff Garstka o announced Ball closing – said that there was not a lot to say about the closing, it comes as a

blow certainly. The City will be working towards a positive outcome with the building, or a new business. No more news now.

o announced Love Sales coming to Barnes Street exit off Hwy 29 – should create 50 new jobs. The county and city sold 21 acres of the old horse park land to them. There will be 2 restaurants and a hotel in the Travel Plaza plans.

Tom Balsley – o Tom echoed Jeff’s comments and said that the City was working very hard to bring new

economic development projects. Right now they cannot disclose any of the information. Visitor Center Report

Very excited – traffic has increased tremendously o Discussion on how to grow

Past Events o Feed Rockingham project successful – the need was met

Thank you to the Board Members that donated.

o Tree Lighting (Nov. 18th) – great event! Tons of people. Mickey Mouse was here in the Chamber and we had a line pretty much all night to take pictures with him. We had a text contest for $20.

o Shop Small Saturday (Nov. 26th) – we had We gave away several including a TV

o Breakfast with Santa (Dec. 10th) - SOLD OUT both shifts; Junior Service League volunteered and helped so much! Lyle was so patient. Support of Sagebrush continues to be amazing. Thank you to all the volunteers! Such a great event!

o Chamber Directory: The 2017 Chamber Directory has been sent. This year’s theme is “Investing in” to match the branding from the County- “You’re in a good place”.

We have 385 members We will have a celebration when we reach 400 members

Upcoming Events o MLK Unity Breakfast (January 16th, 2017) – our year to host!

Need sponsorships/need to be a big seller of tickets Speaker is Dr. Kinlaw of RCC Diane will be shortening the program Decided last month on the Julius Gwynn award – Tyler nominated CB Lawrence to

Member of Month

The purpose is to identify businesses that have gone the extra mile for the Chamber and/or the

community. This is a form of highlighting our Chamber members to show our support of the deserving

business. It’s an added value benefit of being a Chamber Member. When a business does something

exceptional they are recognized for it. They will be recognized in the News & Record Chamber page, the

last Sunday of the month & are given two signs to put up one inside and one outside of their

establishment. It’s also a way to help engage members and build their business.

History of MOM

This award originated from the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce, where Denise saw signage in a

business in Mt. Airy, and thought it was something the Reidsville Chamber should begin. Below are some

examples of the criteria that we use to recognize our Chamber member businesses.

i.e. special fundraisers/programs like Leader in Me, Reidsville Business Showcase, etc.)

Nominee:

February 2017 Member of the Month – Albaad USA, Inc. has been a Reidsville Chamber member

since August 2013, and was a Gold Level Chamber Champ in 2016. They are located on 129

Technology Drive South in Reidsville, NC. Since becoming a Chamber Champ, they have stepped up

to the plate in helping the Chamber in various events. In August, Albaad donated $250 for the School

Supply Drive for Moss Street Elementary. Then they donated wipes for our Golf Tournament in that

same month for the golfer goodie bags. In November, Human Resources Manager, Ivi Williams, set

up a food collection site at their plant break room and front office kitchen for our Feed Rockingham

Food Drive and brought in boxes and boxes of canned and non-perishable items for this new event.

Likewise, they also donated wipes for our Small Business Saturday event held Thanksgiving weekend.

In December, Albaad made a sizable donation to God’s Pit Crew that is based in Danville, VA again

and filled up an entire truck with their products! They make many contributions throughout the

community and deserve to be recognized.

President’s Report January 2017

MLK Unity Breakfast: This year was our turn to host. It was a fantastic breakfast. Sponsorship hit a record high. The

program came off without a hitch. Breakfast was good, there was plenty and it was hot and on time! The speaker was Dr.

Mark Kinlaw and he very short and sweet but delivered a great message. I had several folks approach me and tell me it was

the best we had in years. I’m very pleased with the turnout. Thank to everyone who showed up super early on a holiday!

Chamber Directory: The 2017 Chamber Directory is here. Unfortunately, there were some errors on the printer’s part and

we are awaiting a reprint. The good news- we get an electronic flip book that can be posted online with it. We will still have

in time for the Annual Awards Luncheon.

Building Updates: We will need to heavily work on this in the upcoming months. Now that we own the building, there are

things that need to be put in place. If you are interested in being a part of the Capital Campaign committee, please let us

know!

Chamber Budget: We will have a budget proposal in the January meeting. I will go over in detail during the meeting. It is a

part of your packet on the website.

2017 Staff/Policy/Procedures: The staff will be implementing many new procedures for taking care of ribbon cuttings,

media, facebook, events, etc. We are working hard to provide the members the best quality available in promotion of their

events. Roy Sawyers with Rockingham Update is helping us tremendously in this department. We are really moving things

along with the website as well. Things are going very strong in the office and I’m very proud of the work we are

accomplishing. We will need as much help as possible as we move forward. Kevin is working on the new Employee

Handbook and bringing forward what the committee from last year delivered. He will talk more about that in the meeting.

RDC/City of Reidsville Jeff Gartska and I have meeting with Judy Yarbrough this Thursday to discuss Economic

Development/Tourism/Marketing. I am pleased to know that Judy is focusing solely on Marketing and Tourism because she

is very good with it and I think that we will be able to accomplish a lot together around the Retire NC and other programs.

We will also have the RDC retreat this Saturday January 28, 2017. I will have an update following the wrap up from that.

Board Development/Retreat: We will need to discuss this in the meeting on Wednesday. February 25th is the date that

Cindy can do the first part of the development. We are looking at a DISC profile as a team. The 2nd part is up for discussion

and we will have more details at the meeting.
