Adoption and use cases: Social Business Patterns

Becoming a social business requires a long-term, strategic approach to business culture, executive leadership, an effective corporate strategy, and organizational ability to recognize and design for transformation. Organizations that successfully transform into social businesses are enabled by an optimized workforce, intelligent sales, strengthened operational controls, increased product and service innovation, and deepened customer care and insight.

The results from those already on the journey to becoming a social business show:

→ 90% of respondents report measurable business benefits from Web 2.0 tools, including better access to knowledge, lower costs of doing business, and higher revenues (McKinsey Global Survey 2010)

→ Standout organizations are 57% more likely to allow their people to use social and collaborative tools (IBM CHRO Study 2010)

→ Constellation Research studies have found that engaged workers — those who participated in a forum, reached out to help a colleague in a chat or other online interaction or provided feedback on an enterprise initiative — are 37 percent more likely to report job and employer satisfaction (The Mega Shift Toward Social Communications Nov. 2012).

Organizations that are relatively experienced with social business perspectives and techniques are seeing opportunities to improve specific business processes and their execution through the application of Social Business Patterns. These patterns are similar in concept to business process flows, in that each represents a repeatable, proven set of value-producing actions. Some organizations begin by applying just one pattern, but know they can realize compound benefits by implementing multiple patterns over time.

The following table summarizes these six Social Business Patterns that organizations can apply to quickly realize business results using Web 2.0 capable real-time IBM Sametime solution.
