Preparing for Worship

O God, by your power may we, with all the saints, comprehend the breadth and length and height and depth of the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that we may be filled with your fullness. Amen. —based on Ephesians 3:18-19

Gathering Around the Word

Prelude Gade

Choral Introit

Greeting May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. - 2 Corinthians 13:13 NIV

And also with you.

Announcements of Church Life

Friendship Pads Please sign the friendship pad and pass it along your row. As you pass it back to its starting point, note the

names of those near you and greet one another during the passing of the peace or after the service. You are invited to use a prayer request card (in the red registration folder) to share your joys and concerns.

*Call to Worship (The congregation voice is printed in bold.)

We gather today to worship and celebrate the gift of those that God sets before us as pastors.

We know that it is God who calls and ordains. But is it only our pastor who is called?

Certainly not! We are all called by God to do God’s work! Some Pastors, some Teachers, some Apostles and Elders and all believers.

We are all called; we all have gifts; we all are a part of ministry. And what a humbling gift that is! Let us join together to worship our God who has ordained the pastor who stands before us and who calls us to join in God’s good work.

Seeking God’s Grace

Call to Confession

SEEKING TOGETHER GOD’S FORGIVENESS

We are thankful, God, for the leadership of our pastor; but we also acknowledge that we too are called to join you in the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.

Forgive us, God, when we fail to join you in kingdom building. The work of the church is for all of God’s people.

Forgive us, God, when we neglect to work alongside those you give us as leaders.

God, your requirement to seek justice, love kindness, and to walk humbly with you is not meant only for those who live ministry as a profession.

Forgive us, God, when we are careless to the world around us. Strengthen us to serve alongside our pastors as we seek to be humble agents of justice and kindness.

(A moment of silent prayer for personal confession) … Amen.

Song of Lament “You are the Lord” You are the Lord, giver of mercy.

You are the Christ, giver of mercy. You are the Lord, giver of mercy.

Words of Assurance and Forgiveness

*Sharing God’s Peace When you receive Christ’s peace from your neighbor on one side,

pass it on to your neighbor on the other side. Please greet any new visitors.

*Response of Praise Glory Be to the Father” No. 577 Glory be to the Father, and the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen …

UPCOMING

Tuesday Afternoon Circle will have their next meeting on October 15 at 12:30 p.m. Dessert

and drinks will be served. Both groups will be studying Lesson 2, “God’s Call to Serve” from the

Horizons Bible study “An Abiding Hope”. All ladies are encouraged to attend, whether member

or visitor of Grace.

PLANT AND TREASURE SALE

The Plant Sale and Treasure Sale (Garage Sale) is on Saturday, October 26 from 7:30 a.m.

to 1:30 p.m. (Yes, the time has changed by thirty minutes because of the time the sun will be up

on October 26). We will be collecting pre-orders again on Sunday, October 13. Look for the

ladies with the hats and they will take your orders. We are selling flats of eighteen four inch pots

of pansies and kale, one gallon kale pots, and twelve inch color bowls. Each of you should have

received two order forms for the plants in the mail last week. One form is for you and the other is

for a friend or neighbor. We will be accepting pre-orders for two more weeks; October 13 and

20th. You will be able to buy plants on the day of the sale but it is best to pre-order to make sure

you get what you need. Elsa Louis is in charge of the plant sale and we appreciate all of her work

in getting it organized.

The Treasure Sale (Garage Sale) will be held on Saturday, October 26 from 7:30 a.m. to

1:30 p.m. You have heard that someone's trash is another one's treasures. So yes, it is a garage

sale but we are calling it a Treasure Sale. We hope that you have been saving some items for our

sale. We will start accepting the treasures on Sunday, October 20 after church. If the items are too

large, call Roger Perez or Louie Nash and they will pick them up for you. Please feel free to take

some of the yellow flyers to pass out to friends, co-workers, or neighbors.

The Plant and Treasure Sale are both benefiting the Prayer Garden. We are hoping to raise

enough money to plant the East Texas Garden in November. The Prayer Garden Task Force

needs help with these two sales. A volunteer sheet is up on the bulletin board in the Narthex or

you can e-mail Linda Black with the days you want to help out. We are asking for an hour of your

time. The week of October 21 we will be working on sorting and pricing the items each morning

and evening. If you have any questions, please call or e-mail Linda Black ([email protected] or

817-261-4223). Thanks for supporting the Prayer Garden! The Prayer Garden Task Force

Mark your calendars to wear PINK on Sunday, October 27 as we participate in Worship in

Pink. There will be information from the Center of Cancer and Blood Disorders and Komen

Greater Fort Worth for you to pick up if you are interested. Last year well over 100 churches

helped educate 12,000 people. We are participating this year so don't forget to wear PINK!

Stewardship Packets were handed out this past Sunday, if you did not receive yours it has been

mailed to you. Prayerfully consider your contribution and return your pledge card to Grace,

dedication is Sunday, November 3.

Paul said that you should give in proportion to what God has given you. —1 Corinthians 16:2

ANNOUNCEMENTS New Stove Has Arrived and Is Installed! It is here! Thanks to Brian Anderson and the company

he works for, GPC has received a beautiful donated Wolf Dual Fuel Range (burners are gas;

ovens and griddle are electric). Although the stove is installed it is not yet ready for use. Both the

griddle and ovens need to go through a “burn in” process. This will be done in the next few days.

Stop by the kitchen and take a look at this piece of art. And don’t forget to express your gratitude

to Brian for this generous donation.

Did you notice the preschool playground on Sunday? Last Friday, October 4, the mulch was

wheel barrowed into the playground and spread. Thanks to Louie Nash, Anna Perez, Roger Perez,

Jim Smith, and Linda Black for working for three hours on Friday morning to finish that project.

Thanks to all that watered the flowerpots this summer. We could not have done it without

each of you and your help! The flowerpots were taken care of by Jim and Joan Smith, John

Hendricks, Joan Townsend, Peggy Hellberg, Charlotte Sutton, Faye Sanders, Carole Southworth,

Kent and Becky Couch, Tom and Lisa Whinery, Wanda Archer, Tom Sicks, Linda Black, Cathy

Matson, Roger Perez, Ann Pennington, Melinda Kinkel, and Elsa Louis. Thank you! The Prayer
