FROM THEPASTOR’SDESK

ALL SAINTS DAYOn Thursday, November 1, we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints Day, a feast day where we remember the saints and martyrs who were servants of the Lord during their earthly lives and ask that they pray for us to one day join them in Heaven. Nothing can more powerfully incite us to aspire to the incomparable happiness and blessed company of the saints than their example. As in all feasts of saints, especially in this solemn feast of All Saints, we need to offer praise and thanksgiving to God for His infinite goodness. For it was by the strength the Saints received from above, not by their own, that they triumphed over the enemy. We have the same divine assistance by which they were victorious; the all-powerful grace of our Redeemer. The Blood of Christ was shed for us as it was for them. When we are faced with difficulties and temptations; when the enemy stands in our way, let us not lose courage but know that The Lord is with us."Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my right hand of justice." – Isaiah 41:10The Solemnity of All Saints is a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass times for Thursday, November 1 are 7:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., 11:40 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

MASS BOOK INTENTIONS – The 2019 Mass book is now open for intention requests. Please stop by the parish office to schedule intentions for your loved ones. As a parishioner you may schedule one weekend Mass and three weekday Masses.

THEN JESUS SAID TO HIS DISCIPLES, “WHOEVER WISHES TO COME AFTER ME MUST DENY HIMSELF, TAKE UP HIS CROSS, AND FOLLOW ME.” – MATTHEW 16:24

NOVEMBER EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AND CONFESSIONThe bishops of the United States have asked us to observe monthly Eucharistic Holy Hours to pray for the preservation of our religious freedom. Adoration is a powerful way to observe this call for prayer and penance. Please take advantage of this opportunity to spend time in Adoration as we pray for our families, parish, the Church, and for this nation as we prepare for the election.

ADORATION ON ALL SAINTS DAY: There will be NO ADORATION on Thursday, November 1.CONFESSIONS ON ALL SAINTS DAY: 4:00-5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1.ADORATION ON ALL SOULS DAY: First Friday, November 2 after the 8:45 a.m. Mass until Benediction at 5:00 p.m.DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET: 3:00 p.m. on First Friday during Exposition.

A CALL TO PRAYER:PATRIOTIC PRO-LIFE ROSARYThrough Our Lady of the Rosary's aid, may voters and elected leaders uphold the dignity of human life in their political engagement. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2018, AT 4:00 P.M. Please join us as we gather to pray the Patriotic Rosary for the preservation of our religious freedom. Please visit the display table at the back of church for literature about respect for life.

A MEMORIAL MASS will be celebrated on Sunday, November 4 at 12:00 p.m. in honor of parish members who have passed away in the last year. A reception will be held in the connector immediately following Mass.

RESPECT LIFE MONTHI came so that all might haveand have it to the full.

By following Jesus’ new Commandment of unselfish love, our lives can be richly fulfilling and marked by joy and peace. In contrast, treating others as either means or obstacles to one’s self-serving goals, while never learning to love generously, is an impoverished way to live.

The founders of our nation understood that religion and morality are essential to the survival of a freedom-loving society. John Adams expressed this conviction, stating: “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.”

Catholics must not shrink from the obligation to assert the values and principles we hold essential to the common good, beginning with the right to life of every human being and the right of every woman and man to express and live by his or her religious beliefs and well-formed conscience.

During this Respect Life Month, as we celebrate God’s great gift of life, let us pray and reflect on how each of us might renew our commitment and witness to “respecting, promoting and teaching the transcendent nature of the human person,” thereby shoring up the foundations of a society sorely in need of this guidance.

– Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, Chairman,USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, 2011

FIRST SATURDAY MEDITATION ROSARY – November 3 following 8:00 a.m. Mass At Fatima, the Blessed Mother told us that war is a punishment for sin. She asked us to pray the Rosary for conversion of hearts and to do penance for peace by spending 15 minutes in meditation as we pray the Rosary on the First Saturday of each month. Please take advantage of this opportunity to honor the Blessed Mother's request and do your part to bring about peace by praying the Meditation Rosary immediately following the 8:00 a.m. Mass on the First Saturday of this and every month.

SAINT OF THE WEEK

ST. WOLFGANGFEAST DAY: OCTOBER 31

St. Wolfgang was born in 930 AD to a Swabian family, who sent him at an early age to a monastery school on the island of Reichenau on Lake Constance, currently on the German, Swiss, and Austrian border. Some years later when his friend was made the Archbishop of Trier, St. Wolfgang accompanied the new bishop to found a school for the diocese. In 964, St. Wolfgang entered the Benedictine monastery of Einsiedeln in modern- day Switzerland, where he was ordained a priest. He was assigned to be a missionary, but his superiors soon realized he did not have much of a missionary zeal. He was instead assigned the Bishop of Regensburg, which Wolfgang wanted to deny and return to the monastery. He was sent to Regensburg in 972 and was consecrated a bishop. He continued to practice the monastic life as best he could whilst fulfilling the obligations of his bishopric. St. Wolfgang did much to reform the monastic life in his diocese and even was entrusted to teach the future Emperor, St. Henry. St. Wolfgang died c.994 while travelling down the Danube river into Austria. He was canonized in 1052 AD.
