REGULAR WORSHIP SCHEDULE RETURNS: Our Summer Worship hour (one service, 9:00 AM), ends on September 6th- our 8 & 10:15 AM services return September 13

Sunday School will also return on 9/13 at 9:00 AM. Family Ministry Staff (Sunday School teachers) will be installed on September 27th, 10:15 AM service.

FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION: Due to the Labor Day weekend , the f i rs t Communion Service will actually

be the second Sunday, September 13th

, 2:30 PM. First Sunday of the Month Communion Services will be: October 4, November 1 (All Saints’ Sunday), and December 13 (Note: this is the second Sunday of the month- December 6 is Hometown Christmas Parade). Members and friends are cordially invited to join us for this informal thirty minute Communion Service.

CHURCH PICNIC: Our annual indoor Church Picnic will be Sunday, September 27, immediately following the 10:15 AM Service. As in the past, the church will provide

chicken and hotdogs and the beverage. Members are requested to bring side dishes and desserts to share. The dress for the day is “casual”. Why not wear the jersey of your favorite sports’ team high school, college or pros. Come out and enjoy a time of fun, relaxation and conversation.

SUMMER MUSIC CAMP REVIEW: We had a very successful camp this year, our fourth. We had 26 youth (13 of

them were from St. Mark’s). Those youth who have been with us all four years, even just three, have grown immensely in their musical talents. They put on a wonderful 75 minute program on Friday evening, which was preceded by a potluck meal for the students, their families and the staff. We continue to receive positive feedback from parents, who are so impressed with the skill level of the staff, the number of hours of musical instruction (25 hours) and the costs ($115 per studentF$95 with early registration). We can’t wait until next year.

ST. MARK’S CAFÉ returns for the third year. The Café is held at 9:00 AM during the Sunday School hour in the Multi-Purpose

room. Parents of Sunday School children, members present between services and visitors often find their way there for a continental breakfast. It is staffed by volunteers who either bake or purchase something—breakfast cake, donuts, bagels, etc. If you would like to volunteer to host a Sunday morning, please speak to Carol May, coordinator of the Café.

The annual fall Red Cross Blood Drive at St. Mark’s will take place on Tuesday, September 22nd from 2:00 – 7:00 pm. It’s never too early to schedule your donation time. Please

contact Maribeth Reigner at 215 679-8563. A few minutes from you can be worth a lifetime to a recipient. Thank you!

“LORD, I HAVE TIME” Sometime in July I was talking to my buddy Jim Shelton on the phone. (Jim is my friend who helps run the homeless shelters in Delaware County.) I was on the phone with him for just a few minutes when I had to answer the door and the only line that was ringing (Kathy was away on vacation). I said to Jim, “I’m sorry. I’ve got to run. I don’t have the time to talk with you any longer.” Jim said: “Hey, I understand, Chuck. People just don’t have the time anymore.” With that, I hung up. I got to thinking about that rushed phone conversation with Jim and the abrupt ending. Yeah, here I called him and didn’t have the courtesy to give him my uninterrupted and undivided attention. Why? Because I said, “I don’t have the time.” Time. Sometimes it’s more valuable than material things- houses, cars, money. Just ask any parent who is raising kids these days. Ask any overworked person who is putting in 60-70 hours a week on the job, or two or three jobs. Ask any youth who is doing so many things in their young life that they don’t have time to be “a kid.” Michael Quoist wrote a book on prayers. One was titled, “Lord, I Have Time.” Part of what he wrote was the following: I went out, Lord. People were coming and going, walking and running. Everything was rushing: cars, trucks, the street, the whole town. People were rushing not to waste time.

They were rushing after time, to catch up with time, to gain time. Good-bye, Sir, excuse me, I haven’t time. I’ll come back, I can’t wait, I haven’t time. I must end this letter- I haven’t time. I can’t accept, having no time. I can’t think, I can’t read, I’m swamped, I haven’t time. I’d like to pray, but I haven’t time. You understand, Lord, they simply haven’t the time. The child is playing, he hasn’t time right now.later on.The young man is at his sports, he hasn’t time.Later on.The young married man has his new house; he has to fix it up. He hasn’t time.Later on.The grandparents have their grandchildren. They haven’t time.Later on.They are dying, they no.Too late! They have no more time!

Quoist first published this book of prayers in French in 1954. It was translated into English and copyrighted in 1963. The thought occurred to me that Quoist thought people were “running after time” over sixty years ago; a time when many of us thought we lived in much more simpler and less rushed times. The pace of life was slow and deliberate. No constraints of time back then? Really? Over sixty years later we still are struggling to have enough time. To do what? Work more? Rush the kids to their next soccer game? Take one extra class and squeeze in more extra activity so it may look good when I apply to college? I would like to suggest to you that you take time for yourself. Why do we need to feel as if every moment of our lives need to be filled by “coming and going, walking and running.” at the neglect of ourselves? Back in June I attended a workshop in Wildwood, New Jersey, on “Bullying and Domestic Violence.” The guest speaker, in talking about professionals taking care of themselves-

“ST. MARK’S TRIVIA CORNER” I hope by now you are enjoying a wonderful summer! And within just one month or so, the weather will turn cooler, and September 23rd will mark

the beginning of yet another Fall season. As they say, time flies when you’re having fun! But the older I get, the faster life seems to go by, season by season and year by year. As a youngster, it seemed that life moved very slowly. But as I age, it seems to be going by in the blink of an eye. As an unknown author puts it: “Life goes on . . . Whether you choose to move on and take a chance in the unknown. Or stay behind, locked in the past, thinking of what could have been.” So be sure to appreciate the many moments you enjoy with your family and friends that always seem to make your life complete. And live in the present, because soon the present will become the past. And remember, as a dear friend recently told me, “Old age is always 15 years older than you are!” Hope you enjoy this issue’s trivia questions.

SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE: November 22, 3:00 PM. Pastor Chuck sends a letter of invitation to all members and friends of St. Mark’s who have lost a loved one since Thanksgiving of the

previous year. This service is always held the Sunday before Thanksgiving to assist families to prepare for the upcoming holiday season, their first without a loved one. A guest speaker usually brings a hopeful and helpful message to the bereaved families. Many have found this brief service (35 minutes) a tremendous help in dealing with the holidays. Light refreshments and conversation will follow the service.

C O M M U N I T Y H A L L O W E E N PARADE: Sunday, October 25

th- St.

Mark ’s W orsh ip & Outreach Committee will once again set up

tables outside our building on Main Street and greet and give out free refreshments to passersby. We wish to meet some of our neighbors; and, if they might be looking for a church home, extend to them an invitation to join us some Sunday for worship. If you would like to help that evening, please speak to Jill Haldeman or Karen Keller.

The fall meeting of the Altar Guild will be held on Wednesday September 9th at 7:00 pm in the social room. We will be making

plans for our Fall Friendship Dinner and planning for decorating the church for Harvest Home and Christmas. Please come and join us. We always need extra hands to help and it is a wonderful way to make friends within your St Mark's family. Time commitment is very small and the job we do is very important.

The Sabbath, simply, is a time of rest. It might be a place where you go to appreciate your body, learn, have your emotional health uplifted, social needs met, and get into touch with a “higher being”, the Spirit, or God. Where is that place? I’d like to suggest St. Mark’s, Sunday mornings, 8 & 10:15 AM for worship, and at 9:00 AM for learning, Sunday School. Maybe you need to do a self-evaluation of how you spend your time. And, you do have time. Quoist put it this way: Lord, I have time, I have plenty of time, All the time that you give me, The years of my life, the days of my years, the hours of my days, They are all mine. Mine to fill, quietly, calmly, But to fill completely, up to the brim, To offer them to you, that of their insipid water. You may make a rich wine such as you made once in Cana of Galilee. I am not asking you tonight, Lord, for time to do this and then that, But your grace to do conscientiously in the time that you give me, what you want me to do. Time. Precious time. How will you use it? Think about it.

Prescriptions for a Cure: If

you have an ever accumulating jar of spare change, a few empty

prescription bottles (this is not just limited to empty prescription bottles, use your imagination, vitamin bottles, spice containers, etc.) and a desire to help a charity, you've got all you need to help fight cancer. From now through the end of August, anyone wishing to

donate to the American Cancer Society can peel their personal labels off the vials, fill them with quarters or any spare change and drop them off at St. Mark’s church. All contributions go towards cancer research and that research is allowing people to live normal lives again. So far we have raised $340.00. Our team goal is to raise a total $3,000.00 or more by August 31, 2015. Example: Fill an empty pill bottle with quarters. An average size prescription bottle totals $12! 100 bottles= $1,200! chancel will be decorated nicely for Harvest Home and to receive food contributions for the food pantry of

The Open Link. This year we have a theme of what items we’re looking for- breakfast items for the Meals on Wheels recipients. As you may already know, the folks already receive a hot meal for the middle of the day, and a “sack lunch” for dinner. A year ago The Open Link expanded the program to include a few breakfast items. Items needed most: Belvita Breakfast Biscuits, Individual Oatmeal/Grits packets, Quaker Chewy Granola Bars, Nutri-Grain Fruit Bars, Special K Pastry Crisps, Kashi Soft Baked Cereal Bars, Adult Cereals, Individual Tea/Coffee, English Muffins, Bagels/Bagel Thins, Ensure, Carnation Breakfast Drink, Muffins, Sweet Breads, Danish, or any similar items of your choosing. Items are welcome on September 20th; however, you may bring them to church any Sunday in September, or you may drop them off at church during the week (Monday thru Friday), 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The above list of needed breakfast items will appear in upcoming church bulletins as a reminder. – Thank you for your support!

LET’S MAKE MUSIC – TOGETHER 2015 – 2016 Choir Season

I would like to say “Thank You” to all who have added to our summer worship with their special music. Very soon we will be back to school and our usual fall routines. As you begin to plan your fall schedules, please keep in mind our music ministry. Our adult, handbell, youth and children’s choirs welcome and encourage you to join us when we resume rehearsals in Sep-tember. New faces (and voices) are always welcome. Even if you cannot commit every week to participating, your presence and tal-ents will richly bless each choir. Rehearsals begin on the following dates: Handbell Choir – September 17, 2015 – 6:30 PM – New ringers are welcome. Please see me. Adult Choir – September 10, 2015 – 8:00 PM – We work several weeks ahead so if you have to miss an occasional rehearsal, it’s not a prob-lem. We would love to have senior high youth singing with us. Youth Choir – September 13, 2015 – 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM – All youth in grades 5 and above are invited to join us on Sunday mornings after the worship service. Children’s Choir – September 16, 2015 – 5:00 to 5:45 PM – All children in grades 2 – 4 are invited to join us.
