General:
1. All details shall be considered typical and shall apply at all same and similar conditions.
2. The Contractor shall field measure and verify all dimensions of the existing building and all dimensions relatedthereto.
3. The Contractor shall be responsible for all temporary shoring and bracing required to maintain the structuralstability of the building during construction.
4. All work shall be in accordance with the 2018 Connecticut State Building Code.
5. The Contractor shall be solely responsible for construction site safety as well as the means and methods ofconstruction.
6.. Prepare bid add alternates as follows:
Alternate #1 - Repairs to chimney at southwest corner of project area.Alternate #2 - Removal of damaged materials at underside of floor slabs not related to building envelope
7. Included in Alternate #1, provide lightning protection at chimney per NFPA 780, 2017 edition. This shall includebut not be limited to strike terminals, ground rods, down conductors, grounding grid and bonding. Aluminumcomponents will not be acceptable. Conductor connections are to be made using exothermic welding.Contractor shall take care not to damage any building components. Provide shop drawings showing completelayout of all components with equipment cut sheets. Installation and layout shall be by a company specializingin lightning protection with minimum five years’ experience.
Structural Steel:
ASTM A992 for wide-flange shapesASTM A36 for other rolled shapesASTM A500 grade B or C for tube and pipe shapes
1. Bolts: ASTM A325, 3/4 inch diameter, tension control bolts with dome head and twist-off spline. Providehardened washer under nut.
2. SMAW welding electrodes: ASTM A233, E70xx series, low hydrogen.
3. Shop primer: one coat of grey. rust inhibitive primer, except for members which are to be encased in concrete,spray fireproofed, or within 2 inches of field welds.
4. Metal deck shall be galvanized, coating class G60. Minimum yield strength = 33 ksi
5. Steel work shall be in accordance with AISC "Specification for the Design, Fabrication, and Erection ofStructural Steel for Buildings."
6. Welders shall be certified in accordance with AWS standard qualification procedures.
7. Connections shall be designed to resist reactions indicated. Where no reaction is specified, designconnections to resist one half of the maximum allowable uniform load capacity for the span.
8. Fasten metal deck with 5/8" diameter puddle welds to supports 12"o.c., and #12 self-drilling screws spaced 36"maximum along side laps.
9. Submit Erection Plans and complete shop drawings of all structural steel, joist, and deck for review.
10. Special Inspections shall be made of the structural steel in the shop and in the field. Metal deck installationshall also be inspected.
Masonry:
1. The compressive strength of masonry shall be 1500 psi based on a test strength of masonry units of 2150 psion the net cross sectional area.
2. Mortar shall be Type N Portland Cement-Lime mortar conforming to ASTM C270.
3. Grout shall conform to ASTM C476.
4. Portland cement: ASTM C150.
5. Hydrated lime: ASTM C207, type S.
6. Masonry cement shall not be used.
7. Calcium chloride shall not be used.
8. Masonry accessories shall be hot dip galvanized.
9. Where structural steel is in contact with masonry of exterior walls, or is exposed to the cavity of an exteriormasonry wall, wrap the steel with Perm-A-Barrier flashing as manufactured by W.R. Grace.
10. Where masonry abuts steel, provide galvanized Hohmann & Barnard #363 gripstay anchors @16"o.c., hookedinto Gristay channel on the steel member.
11. Provide steel angle lintels per schedule for all openings thru CMU, including doors, windows, and openings formechanical ductwork. Coordinate location and quantities with architectural and mechanical drawings.
12. Exterior lintels shall be hot dipped galvanized.
13. Special Inspections shall be made of mortar and grout batching, laying, mortaring and grouting of masonryunits, and placement of reinforcement.
