Remove this 1st slide before you make your presentation. This is our new PowerPoint presentation that we encourage you to use. It’s ideal for a first presentation to a club (or a ‘refresher' if they’ve not had a presentation for some time) or any group of people as it gives a broad overview. It’s unlikely that a ‘one size fits all’ ROMAC presentation will exist that suits everyone. For example doctors might prefer to include ‘grotesque’ medical photos when presenting to other doctors that others would never consider using. We expect that you will add, subtract and probably modify some of these slides to suit your personal style and preferred contents such as patients that have been in your district. Should you need any help, please contact your ROMAC District Chair or ROMAC’s Marketing Director Phil Rosenberg mobile 0412 374 363 email [email protected]. What we do request is that for continuity and professionalism you use this template for all your ROMAC PowerPoint presentations, ie ROMAC’s objectives above the photo montages, our graphic ‘bracket’ below it, plus our logo at the bottom all encased within a background that fades from blue to white. Some people prefer bullet points, others long sentences. You’ll note that we’ve used bullet points, and that when used as a slide show they appear one at a time, giving you ample opportunity to say and/or explain them before the audience can read the one that follows. To easily create a word document of this presentation, simply click on ‘file’, then ‘send to’ and finally ‘Microsoft office word.’ You can then use this as your speaker notes to assist you with your presentation, adding more notes that possibly you don’t want your audience to see. Thank you for taking the time to make these important presentations. They will make a difference and be beneficial to ROMAC’s children. Don’t forget to delete this slide before you make your first presentation!

} To provide hope when there is no hope } To restore dignity to human life } To transform a child’s life } To provide the best medical and surgical expertise

} Welcome to ROMAC {

There are children in our world who are forgotten.

Children whom no one wants to see.

Children who have no chance of survival.

We call them ‘The Forgotten Children.’

Page 4: Remove this 1st slide before you make your presentation. This is our new PowerPoint presentation that we encourage you to use. Its ideal for a first presentation

These children are from humble backgrounds and live in remote areas.

Some are shunned by their local communities.

A few have no choice but to beg on the streets.

Too many would have died.

A fortunate few will be saved by caring Rotarians just like you.

ROMAC proudly gives these children the opportunity of a new life.

} What is ROMAC? {

ROMAC, Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children, is an official Rotary International program of and created by the Rotary Districts

of Australia and New Zealand.

ROMAC is run by volunteer Rotarians.

Just like you.

} To provide hope when there is no hope } To restore dignity to human life } To transform a child’s life } To provide the best medical and surgical expertise

} The children {

ROMAC’s children are aged 15 years and younger.

Their conditions include untreated fractures, massive tumours, encephaloceles (herniated

brain), severe burns and heart conditions.

Some conditions can’t be seen.

Many are disturbing to even look at.

We could not imagine how hopeless these children – and their parents - feel.

} The numbers {

Since ROMAC began in 1988, we have treated over 300 deserving and underprivileged children.

In 2007/08 we treated an impressive 47 children.

In 2008/09 we treated 31 children.

In 2009/10 we treated 30 children.

Over the next few years, only with your help, we will change and save the lives of many, many

more.

13 year old Filipino Rey, for the first time in his life, can now face the world with confidence.

Born with a severely disfigured face he had great difficulty eating and speaking. Ray’s surgery was

miraculously performed by a group of caring specialists over 13 hours at Brisbane’s Wesley Hospital at no cost.

Rocelyn had a 2 kilo tumour that, according to the surgeon, would have killed her with weeks if ROMAC

hadn’t rushed her to Australia for treatment.

  Poi was kept hidden from society

because of her brain herniation.Her facial restoration was a complex operation,

involving the reconstruction of her skull, and the re-centering of her eyes.

Again our volunteer skilled surgeons performed a miracle.

4 year old Matthew had a serious heart valve problem that meant that he could have dropped dead at any moment.He successfully underwent open heart surgery at the Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick, seen on the left in the Intensive

Care Unit, and on the right proudly showing off his “zipper”

} How do your children benefit? {

Caring specialist and surgical staff gain invaluable experiences they would not normally access.

They perform ‘ground breaking’ surgical procedures.

These experiences benefit your children.

} The Children {

Whilst we’re delighted to have changed and saved the lives of so many children, there were more

we could not help because of:

Poor communication problems in remote villages.

Lack of available hospital beds.

Insufficient funds.

} Why help these Children? {

Australian and New Zealand medical facilities are amongst the world’s best, and our children are immediately treated.

Unfortunately, the required medical expertise and facilities for ROMAC’s children are not accessible in their countries.

Our children would not be expected to endure the pain, suffering and isolation these children live with.

Why help? Because we’re Rotarians, and Rotarians care.

} ROMAC is good news for Rotary {ROMAC has probably generated more publicity for Rotary in

Australia and New Zealand than any other Rotary project!Your involvement could result in publicity for your club.

Page 17: Remove this 1st slide before you make your presentation. This is our new PowerPoint presentation that we encourage you to use. Its ideal for a first presentation

} Is ROMAC local or international? {

It is international as the underprivileged children we bring to Australia and New Zealand are mainly from Oceania.

It’s also local because:

The medical treatments are carried out here in Australia and New Zealand.

The valuable experience our caring doctors and surgeons gain in treating the severe cases

are not normally accessible to them.

} To provide hope when there is no hope } To restore dignity to human life } To transform a child’s life } To provide the best medical and surgical expertise

No Australian or New Zealand child is disadvantaged as ROMAC adheres to strict immigration guidelines.

The money that you donate is spent right here supporting our local communities, from the hospitals at which the children are treated to the wonderful,

(mostly ethnic) families who host them.

So next time someone asks you if ROMAC is an international or local Rotary programme,

please let them know that it’s both!

} Value for money {

Generous surgeons always donate their time.

Many medical support staff often donate their time.

Suppliers often donate medical supplies.

Rotarian volunteers always donate their time.

Hospitals sometimes don’t charge.

} The children need your support {

Hundreds of children in the Oceania region are identified each year that can benefit from ROMAC’s unique

life changing and life saving services.

ROMAC finds these children, brings them to Australia and New Zealand and gives their families a new future.

With your support we can continue to save these underprivileged children's lives.
