RENO, Nev. – The playoffs are near for Reno 1868 FC, but the team will first have to get past its rival Sacramento Republic FC first.
The third and final regular season installment of the Donner Pass Derby kicks off at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday inside Greater Nevada Field.
Reno’s final home match of the regular season pits two playoff-bound teams against one another with Reno holding the series advantage at 2-0.
The last time these two met, Reno rallied back in Sacramento thanks to Golden Boot leader Dane Kelly (18 goals this season) and Rookie of the Year candidate Chris Wehan.
Both helped Reno take the regular season series and build on what will be an inevitable Top 4 finish in the Western Conference.
Reno’s 73 goals are the most in the United States this year and the club, who has already locked down a home match, is 13 goals away from breaking the American record.
Sacramento snuck into the USL Cup Playoffs thanks in part to Reno defeating Orange County SC this past Saturday. The club holds the eight seed in the West.
Villyan Bijev leads the club with nine goals followed by Trinidad & Tobago international Trevin Caesar (7 goals), who recently played in Trinidad’s 2-1 win over the United States.
Saturday is also Fan Appreciation Day at Greater Nevada Field with $5 craft brew being offered (21 or older) followed by post-match fireworks.

Darwin Espinal / 13 / MidfielderEspinal, 22, is a dynamic, pacey midfielder who most recently played for the South Florida Surf, a club in the Premier Development League (PDL). The Honduran international is not new to the USL scene as he played for the Tampa Bay Rowdies during the 2015-16 season scoring four goals.

Nick von Niederhäusern / 5 / MidfielderVon Niederhäusern, 27, most recently played for Swiss(Raiffeisen) Super League club, FC Vaduz from 2013-16 which earned him a spot in one of the world’s mostpopular video games, FIFA 16. He made a total of 74appearances with Vaduz, including nine Europa Leaguequalifier matches and was part of Vaduz’s LiechtensteinCup Championships in 2014, ‘15 and ‘16. Vaduz posteda plus-44 goal differential (46-2) during Von Niederhäusern’sthree-year stint in the Liechtenstein Cup.
Chris Wehan / 14 / MidfielderWehan, 22, spent the summer of last year training withthe San Jose Earthquakes before he was invited to doa trial with Reno 1868 FC last month. In Wehan’s junioryear, he was named to the First Team All-ConferenceUSA after leading the Lobos with 10 goals scored. In thesame year, Wehan was named MVP and best offensiveplayer of the Grange & Ashwell Memorial Invitational andearned a spot on the Academic All-Conference USA.As a senior, Wehan led the Lobos to victory in the 2016Conference USA Men’s Soccer tournament and wasdeclared the MVP.
Dembokwi Yomba / 19 / ForwardYomba, 20, joined the Atlético Madrid youth program in2014. In the same year, he made his international debutfor Atlético in the EUFA (Union of European Football)Youth League against Olympiacos. Yomba and hisformer Spanish club would later advance to the quarterfinalsof the tournament. Prior to his stints with Atlético,Yomba played for the United States U-17, U-18, andU-20 teams. Yomba was scouted while traveling withthe U-18 Men’s National team to the Copa del Atlanticoin Spain.
Thomas Janjigian / 6 / DefenderJanjigian played for the University of California, Irvine. As a Senior, Janjigian was named First Team All-Big West and led the team with three goals and 5 assists. In Janjigian’s Freshman year with the Anteaters, he started in 20 matches, helping his team win the Big West Championship. In the same year, Janjgian also made a NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.

Lindo Mfeka / 17 / Midfielder
Mfeka was selected by the San Jose Earthquakes on April 6 with the 28th overall pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. Mfeka was a four-year starter at the University of South Florida, totaling 16 goals and 18 assists over 72 career collegiate games. He was named First Team All-American Athletic Conference from 2014-2016 and NSCAA Second Team All-East Region in 2016.
Sean Bieker / 24 / GoalkeeperKlabough, 24, is a native of Reno who played four years varsity at Bishop Minouge High School. He played college soccer at Cal State Fulerton before signing his first proffesional contract with Reno 1868 FC.

Ian RussellHead CoachRussell played for the University of Washington and later started his professional career with the Seattle Sounders of the USL First Division in 1998 and 1999. Russell wasdrafted by the San Jose Earthquakes in 2000 and continued to play seven seasons in MLS. Six of those seasons came with the Earthquakes, where Russell helped the team wintwo MLS Cups in 2001 and 2003. In 2008, Russell returned to the Earthquakes as an assistant coach, a position he held for eight seasons. He helped lead the club to thepostseason twice, while earning the Supporters’ Shield for best regular season record (19-6-9) in 2012. Russell was also instrumental in the Quakes’ international and collegiatescouting efforts, and briefly helped oversee the club’s youth development as the academy’s technical director. He served as the Earthquakes interim head coach for the finaltwo games of the 2014 season and holds a U.S. Soccer Federation “A” coaching license.
Eric BucchereAssistant CoachBucchere, 34, has nine years of coaching experience on hisrésumé. He most recently held the head coach position forthe men’s soccer team at Menlo College, posting an overallrecord of 43-23-9 across four seasons, including a GoldenState Athletic Conference regular season and tournamentchampionship in 2016. Bucchere also led the PremierDevelopment League club Burlingame Dragons to back-tobackdivision titles from 2015-16.
