Best Out of Waste Activity was conducted for the students of Class IV

Recycling is turning the waste material into something new. Students of class IV were

encouraged to make use of waste, discarded material in the house to make products

useful for them. Students made wall hangings, sceneries, decoration pieces, utility

boxes, bags by using old cardboard cartons, old buttons, egg shells, coconut shells.

Children were made aware that it is important to reduce the amount of waste

produced so that less waste reaches the landfills to prevent pollution of land and river

waters.

Recycling helps to sustain the environment for future generations. Students will learn

to follow the principle of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Segregation of Waste activity was conducted for Class III.

Segregating waste is the first step in managing school or household waste. If waste is

not separated properly, it gets mixed up in landfills, which can contaminate ground

water and cause harm to the ecosystem.

Children were made aware of the need to segregate the waste at source. Children were

told about separation of wet waste and dry waste. Like cooked food/left over food,

vegetables, fruit peels, coffee grind, teabags, flowers, garlands etc. This kind of waste is

dumped in green bins. This organic waste can be changed into compost.

Dry waste is collected in blue bins. It is recyclable waste i.e. plastic, food jars, plastic

toys, milk jar, cottons, paper gift wraps, boxes, cardboard etc. This kind of waste can be

recycled.

Red bins are often used for kitchen and garden waste. Waste segregation is done to

easily separate the waste based on the process of recycling.

Children were sensitized to follow the segregation of waste at home too.

Demonstration on the use and importance of 3 different types of dustbins in the school

was carried out.
