The Council have pleasure in submitting their Annual Eeport. The Annual Examinations were held on 24th and 25th April

last. 119 Candidates entered for examination, of whom 117 presented themselves, viz.:- 56 for the First Examination, 33 for the Second, and 28 for the Final. The following is a list of the successful Candidates arranged in order of merit : -

The seven gentlemen who have this year passed the Final Examination have been admitted Associates in terms of Eule 6.

The following gentlemen have been admitted Fellows in terms of Rule 3 : - George Steel Campbell, David Begg, Alexander Mackintosh Hogg, Charles Briglmen, Grahame Oncken Gunn, and Ernest Edward Hawes.

The Council have to report with regret the deaths of the fol- lowing Fellows: - Mr. John Brotch Gillison, a Member since 1882; Mr. NiNiAN Glen, CA., M.A., a Member since 1890; Mr. Niel Ballingal Gunn, a Member since 1869, a past President, and, at the time of his death, a Vice-President of the Faculty ; and of Mr. Kalph Price Hardy, an Honorary Fellow since 1905. The Council have also to record the resignation of Mr. George Cameron, a Member since 1881, and of Mr. John Henry William Eolland, C.A., a Member since 1884.

The total Membership is now 221, viz. :- 3 Honorary Fellows, 217 Fellows, and 1 Associate.

The number of Students admitted was 42. 3 Students (previously taken off the roll) were reinstated, 7 became Asso- ciates, 9 resigned, 11 were removed in terms of Bye-law 16, and 4 in terms of Bye-law 6. The number on the roll is 181.

The Honorary Treasurer's Accounts for the year ending 31st December 1912, audited by Mr. David A. Clapperton, F.F.A., C.A., are herewith submitted. From these it will be seen that the Income of the year was £808, 0s. 3d., the Outgo £723, 15s. 6d., and the Funds at the close of the year £2635, 2s. 7d.

Donations of books for the Library have been received from Mr. Morris Fox, Mr. С D. Higham, Mr. G. H. Knibbs, Mr. A. M. Laughton, Mr. Lucius M'Adam, Mr. W. Eae Macdonald, Mr. J. J. M'Lauchlan, Mr. Donald Macphail, Mr. Henry Moir, Dr. A. E. Sprague, Mr. J. B. Trivett, Mr. A. W. Watson, the Actuarial Society of America, the Chartered Insurance Institute, the Insurance Society of Edinburgh, the Life Assurance Medical Officers' Association, the Koyal Statistical Society, and others, to all of whom the thanks of the Council have been con- veyed.

4th November 1912. " Errors in Age." By Mr. John A. Rankin, F.F.A., A.I.A.

2nd December 1912. " Peerage Males - Statistics of Mortality, First Marriage, and Issue." By Mr. Robert M. Hunter, F.F. A.

These have been published in the Transactions. Other Papers were arranged for, but unfortunately, for one reason or another, they had at the last moment to be held over until next Session. The Council take this opportunity of inviting Members both at home and abroad to submit Papers for the Sessional Meetings.

The Seventh International Congress of Actuaries was held in Amsterdam in September 1912. The President, the Hon. Secre- tary, and Mr. William Gibson (who were appointed Delegates from the Faculty), and a number of Fellows attended. The following Papers were contributed by Members of the Faculty : - " Re- Assurance in Life Assurance," by Mr. J. S. B. Wilson, F.F. A., and "Tables of Mortality for Benefits to Young Lives," by Mr. Robert M. Hunter, F.F.A. Two Volumes of Reports and Proceedings have been published.

The Council have accepted the invitation of the Royal Society of Edinburgh to co-operate in the celebration in 1914 of the Tercentenary of the great Scottish Mathematician, John Napier of Merchiston, and representatives have been appointed to the Central Committee to assist in making the necessary arrange- ments.

Considerable progress has been made in developing the scheme for a permanent Bureau of Research in Life Assurance, which continues to receive the earnest consideration of the Councils of the Faculty and Institute.
