Page 21: Report on Mundra Port

Sustainable:

Infrastructure industry per se requires huge investments, large tracts of land and utilizes a large amount of resources and hence has to be sustainable in its endeavor to have long term benefits for society and the business. We at Adani group understand this and have invested and initiated in various activities that focus on our sustainability. From the Health, Safety and Environment perspective, to bringing about inclusive development in the rural and urban landscapes where we have our presence through our CRS arm, Adani Foundation, the Adani group keenly adopts processes and technology that boost sustainability of our group.

Organic waste converter from canteens and residential areas makes manure out of waste, sewage treatment plants through aerobic digestion, desalination plants, recycling of solid waste to prevent increase in landfills, to recover things of any value, thereby saving resources and energy. And what cannot be recycled is destroyed through the waste destruction machine at all our sites.

As an environmentally responsible and sensitive company, we have put in place several measures to mitigate negative impact on the environment along with several proactive and protective measures. We undertake mangrove preservation, terrestrial greening in all our ports, 100% fly-ash capture and export through world class bagging facilities in all our power plants

The CSR arm operates in four chosen areas of Education, Healthcare, Rural Infrastructure and Sustainable Livelihood to bring about progress and prosperity in the communities we impact.

Environment:

“To create plantation and greenery not only to reduce CO2 emission but also to become responsible corporate citizen and to create environment friendly/Sustainable setup”

The infrastructure industry is dependent on natural resources and thrives in their optimal usage and transformation for the development and progress of the society. It is therefore the responsibility of the industry and the organizations that constitute it to preserve and conserve the environment around their operations and as a responsible corporate citizen, Adani has undertaken multiple initiatives and innovations for the best protection and preservation of the environment in and around our sites and communities.

The group has a dedicated Department of Horticulture which has pioneered the implementation of the latest Iso-Dutch technique in India where a green zone has been developed in highly saline sandy soil and water (35000-45000 TDS).

The Port Company, APSEZ has been recognized internationally as a “World ports for

information, experiences and ideas, seeking to increase their participation are seen as critical steps towards relationship building and creating synergy.

Establishing and nurturing people led institutions like the School Management Committees, engaging youth as a cadre of Education volunteers, undertaking awareness drives and organizing interactive forums to increase self-confidence are few of the multiple strategies adopted.

Material Support

To enhance the achievement level of students in school subjects, promote information technology, inculcate reading habits amongst the children, improve awareness about health and personal hygiene, facilitate active learning, encourage creativity and all round development, material support is provided to the schools.

Foundation provides Reading corner/Library along with a set of magazines and books for the library on a regular basis as well as health kits to the schools. To facilitate better functioning of the schools and to improve the environment of the school and classrooms, furniture and teaching aids are provided. Students of high school who have to commute more than 2 kilometers are provided with bicycles to improve access to the school. Female students are given priority in this initiative.

Infrastructure Support

The Adani Foundation recognizes the importance of adequate infrastructural support as an important component to strengthen and universalize elementary education. Provision of clean drinking water facility, separate sanitation units for boy and girls, are few such initiatives to add value and bridge the gap in the existing government system.

The west coast basin terminal is about 10 nautical miles west of the existing Mundra port terminals.

The West Basin is being designed as an Import bulk handling terminal with the capacity to handle capsize vessels. It is located geographically west of the existing berths.

Each berth is designed to have handling capacity of 12 MMT per annum. On completion, West Basin will have 20 berths with the potential to handle 200 mmt of bulk cargo.

The basin will be developed in phased manner. Two deep water offshore berths in Phase I Development and one additional berth will be added in Phase II.

The Ist phase, West basin trial runs have been carried out on 12/12/2010 with the berthing of its first cargo vessel M.V. CSK Beilun with LOA of 289 mtrs and beam of 45 mtrs. With the commissioning of the West Basin, Mundra Port is poised to become the world largest coal import terminal.

The West Basin Terminal has been built to meet the coal requirement for the two mega power projects which have been set up by Adani Power and Tata Power.
