It was anything but business as usual at The Colonial Theatre during our 2014-2015 Season. Progress was made in a few key areas of growth, new partnerships were formed and, in one of the most challenging episodes in the Theatre’s history, we endured a breach of trust that affected not only our finances, but also our collective spirit and that of our community. During the second half of the year, the staff and board came together to repair the damage and make the changes needed to position the Theatre for future success. We would like to acknowledge those in our community who stood by us as we worked through this process. The collective support of our staff, members, donors and patrons is emblematic of what brought this nonprofit to life more than 20 years ago, and what will carry it forth in the decades to come.

In 2015, The Colonial partnered with The New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA), The City of Keene and Arts Alive to play an instrumental role in bringing NEFA’s Creative Communities Exchange to our area – a first for the Monadnock Region. This symposium, which had previously been hosted in metropolitan areas such as Providence, Rhode Island and Portland, Maine, united leading arts and cultural organizations, municipal planners, and civic leaders from throughout New England.

The Colonial also forged new partnerships that strengthened the Theatre’s standing, as well as that of the entire region. Our emphasis on strategic alliances spawned many new initiatives, including an Evening of A Capella, which raised funds to support MAPS Counseling Services. This Colonial-produced event brought together the best collegiate groups from the Northeast for a resounding financial and artistic success, allowing this event to become the signature fundraiser for this important human services organization.

Along with increased collaborative connections, The Colonial once again offered our patrons a year of diverse, quality programming from across the globe. This buoyed The Colonial’s position as a committed leader of The Monadnock Region’s arts community, attracting both residents and visitors to attend, engage in and sustain the performing arts.

We are enormously thankful for the outstanding support of our committed board, staff, members, volunteer ushers and donors, all of whom made the last year possible. As always, we look forward to seeing you at The Colonial!

During the 2014-2015 Live Performance season, our volunteer ushers donated a combined total of 4,443 hours of their time to The Colonial Theatre. According to The Independent Sector’s latest statistics (independentsector.org), the value of each volunteer hour in the state of New Hampshire is $23.07. That equates to over $102,500 worth of donated time and services! We’d like to extend a very special THANK YOU, to our entire volunteer usher staff. As a non-profit performing arts center, we simply could not do it without them!

August The New Hampshire Dance Institute once again put on a solid performance. This year, a packed audience was treated to A Drop in the Ocean.

September The 2014-2015 season left the dock with Captain Sig & Friends’ providing a salty account of fishing for the “deadliest catch” on the Bering Sea.

October For the fifth straight season, we presented the MET Live in HD, utilizing The Colonial’s Digital Projector. Verdi’s tenth opera, Macbeth, kicked-off the broadcasts.

November Singer, composer and actor, Lyle Lovett showcased his gift for storytelling fusing elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues to a near sold out audience.

December Sweet Honey in the Rock returned to The Colonial to help us celebrate the Holydays, with their compelling and potent blend of blues, African, jazz, gospel and R&B, woven with themes of political and social justice.

January We had the second highest film attendance in the month of January, with Oscar nominated and award winning films like Birdman, The Theory of Everything, and Whiplash.

February The Keene Lion’s Club presented Cinderella as its 63rd annual performance, treating four audiences to the magic of this all-ages fairytale.

March The Philadelphia-based hip-hop dance company Rennie Harris, showcased their talents of locking, popping, boogaloo, B-boy, B-girl, house and hip-hop in its RHAW-est form.

April The Colonial Theatre forged another important annual partnership, this time with MAPS Counseling Services to bring an outstanding evening of A Cappella music to the stage.

May Colin & Brad: Two Man Group had the audience doubled-over in laughter with a hilarious evening of extraordinary improv comedy that resembled scenes out of Whose Line is it Anyway?

June Legendary American singer, song-writer Lucinda Williams, treated a Colonial audience to her unique style of rock, folk, blues and country music.

July The Colonial screened When The Iron Bird Flies, in an effort to help raise awareness and funds for victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Nepal.
