The Finley District PSSA Swimming Carnival was held in Cobram on Friday 28th February. BPS convened this carnival this year. It was a perfect day with a big crowd in attendance to cheer on the school teams.

I would like to thank Mrs Phillips for her huge effort in convening such a successful carnival , she put in many hours of organization to cover the smallest detail in order for the day to run smoothly. She was ably assisted by Miss Bacchetto and a team of committed BPS staff on the day. Karlina helped out as a stroke judge and Jono achieved a 100% success rate with the starter’s gun.

Our P&C did a marvellous job in assisting with the setup and catering for the hungry masses and the Berrigan Lions Club’s cooking effort completed the team effort. Well done to everyone!

SCHOOL NEWS Mia recount of Riverina Tennis Trials

On Thursday the 28th of February, I went to Griffith to try out for the Riverina team in tennis.

I played 3 matches at the start of the day. My first match I won, I was down 5-2 and I didn’t know what I was doing wrong so I started concentrating more then I came up from 5-2 and won 7-5. I was so proud of myself. I also made a friend, her name was Lucy.

After all the games were over the top 8 girls made it into the playoffs. In the play offs it was a tie breaker first to 10. I had to play Lucy first, I won 10-4. I played another 6 matches and lost one 10-4 but winners are decided on the score. I won the rest of my tie breakers.

I couldn’t wait to hear if I had made it in to the Riverina team or not. Did you know that 20 girls were trying out for the team after making it through trials across the Riverina? All the girls had to wait for the boys to finish which was another half an hour later.

When the boys finally finished, they started calling out the top 5 names of the girls. I was so nervous but then I heard my name, I happily walked up with the rest of the girls.

I am really looking forward to representing the Riverina in the NSW PSSA Tennis Competition in Newcastle on the 5th – 7th May. I love playing tennis and every time I play tournaments I make new friends.
