The Humanitarian Leadership Academy (The Academy) works to
create a faster and more effective humanitarian response with
increased local participation and ownership. The Academy is a
global platform of learning connecting both humanitarian
professionals and non-traditional responders. The Academy seeks
to facilitate local participation in humanitarian preparedness and
response by strengthening capacities among local responders and
humanitarian organisations. The Academy strives for local
responders and humanitarian organisations to adopt appropriate
best practices and innovations for humanitarian preparedness and
response. In addition, the Academy aims to create sustainable
learning provision in the sector by supporting actors that provide
learning opportunities.

Background:
Internal Learning Strategy
6
The purpose of defining an internal staff learning strategy is to ensure
that the Academy, as a new social start-up organisation, lives up to its
values of promoting continuous learning and knowledge in the sector
and utilises the content and methodologies that it promotes as high
quality learning.
Internal Learning Strategy
7
1. Review the Academy’s core strategy, operational approach,
induction pathway and current internal staff learning strategy
report (strategy, mindmap).
2. Drawing on existing competency frameworks (e.g. CHCF) that may
be relevant, create a core competency framework for the
Academy that focuses on;
1. Learning science, design and delivery
2. Humanitarian experience
3. Leadership
3. To enable the development of a personal learning journey utilising
existing and new Kaya content. Suggest a social learning
experience on Kaya (engage with managers/buddy, gamified
badges, interact with other teams) that tie together induction
content and the activities in during the induction period.
