Parker Ramsay, organistParker Ramsay is known in the United States, Europe and Asia both as an accomplished soloist and accompanist. In 2014, he was awarded First Prize at the Sweelinck International Organ Competition (NL). He has performed in venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Washington National Cathedral, Princeton University Chapel, and the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Festival appearances have included the Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam, Dubrovnik Summer Music Festival, Cambridge New Music Project, and the 800 Jahre Thomana Celebration in Leipzig. Mr. Ramsay will perform works of Bach, Ligeti, Messiaen, Sweelinck, and others.

Adam Detzner, organistAdam Detzner is a graduate with honors and distinction from Stanford University (B.A. in Music, 2014), where he studied organ with Dr. Robert Huw Morgan and harpsichord with Elaine Thornburgh. After graduation, he served as Organ Scholar at Trinity Church, Copley Square (Boston) during the 2014-2015 program year, as the inaugural recipient of the Association of Anglican

Musicians Internship Grant. He holdsa Masters degree inOrgan Performance and Literature from the

Eastman School of Music, where he studied with David Higgs. Recent concert highlights include a performance of an organ concerto by C.P.E. Bach with the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra.

Requiem: Maurice Durufléand Herbert HowellsIn honor of the Feast of All Souls, the Cathedral Choir will present two settings of the Requiem Mass, by Maurice Duruflé and Herbert Howells. Dr. Richard K. Fitzgerald, conductor; Miss Nicole Simental, organist.

David Enlow, organistDavid Enlow is a “commanding” organist (The New Yorker), teacher, and conductor based in New York, who is active in North America and Europe. Credited with “immense virtuosity” (Stuttgarter Zeitung) and “performances full of color, passion, invention, and power” (The American Record Guide), David works in concert music and church music. His solo recordings include Pater Seraphicus, the complete major organ works of César Franck; Piano à l’Orgue, an album of piano transcriptions; and Bach on Park Avenue, recorded on the Mander organ at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in New York.

Lessons and CarolsThe Cathedral Choir and Cathedral Brass mark the season with their annual presentation of Lessons and Carols. The afternoon will include works by Bach, Britten, and Howells, among others, as well as familiar carols sung by all.

Karel Paukert, organistCzech-American organist Karel Paukert graduated from the Prague Conservatory and the Ghent Conservatory, Belgium, where he studied under organists Jan Bedrich Krajs and Gabriel Verschraegen. He immigrated to the United States in the 1960s and gained citizenship in 1972. He taught at several universities, most notably as Professor of Organ and Church Music at Northwestern University and the Cleveland Institute of Music and became curator of the music department at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Mr. Paukert will accent the Christmas season with a performance of Messiaen’s La Nativité du Seigneur, excerpts

of which will also be featured at Compline on the same day at 9:00 p.m.

Christopher Young, organistA native of New England, Jacobs School of Music Professor Christopher Young is the winner of the 1988 National Young Artists Competition (NYACOP) of the American Guild of Organists and the 1988 Arthur Poister Competition (Syracuse University). Dr. Young has been a featured artist at national and regional conventions of the American Guild of Organists.He has been a featured performer on American Public Media’s Pipedreams, and has appearedin concert with the Rochester (MN) Chamber Chorale and the Minneapolis Chamber Symphony. A graduate of The Eastman School of Music, he earned the MM and DMA degrees and the prestigious Performer’s Certificate underDavid Craighead and Russell Saunders.

The Office of TenebraeThe Cathedral Schola’s annual presentation of music for Tenebrae, featuring motets of Gesualdo and Tallis’ Lamentations of Jeremiah, has become one of the Cathedral’s most popular events. The evening is marked by the gradual extinction of candles, culminating in the performance of Gregorio Allegri’s Miserere in a completely darkened Cathedral.

David Briggs, organistThe Cathedral Concert series welcomes back frequent performer and internationally renowned organist David Briggs. With a huge repertoire spanning five centuries, he is known across the world for his organ transcriptions of symphonic music by composers such as Mahler, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Elgar, Bruckner, Ravel, and Bach. In fact, the Cathedral Choir will join Mr. Briggs during his appearance this season as he presents his own transcription of Mahler’s Second Symphony.

Annual Donor ConcertThose who have generously supported the work of Cathedral Music will be invited to a private concert and reception in their honor. This annual concert takes place in the Cathedral apse and is the Cathedral musicians’ way of showing appreciation to those who make the Cathedral concerts possible. Reception to follow in the Cathedral undercroft.

ComplineThe first Sunday of the month, September through June, the men of the Cathedral Choir chant the Office of Compline. The Office consists of psalms, short passages from scripture, an office hymn, a canticle, responsory, collect and additional prayers. Compline is offered when the work of the day is completed, and the quietness of evening settles over the hearts and minds of those who have gathered. The Office begins at 9 p.m. We hope you will join us for this unique spiritual experience.
