• New low-biopersistence fibre insulation materials

and test protocols

• Thermal conductivity critical for thermal

insulation: often the sole selection criterion for

furnace construction

• Depending on application, insulation material

could function for up to 15 years

• Only 5–10 % advantage in insulating properties

(lower thermal conductivity) could contribute

greatly to energy savings over service lifetime

• Good inter-laboratory reproducibility

• Results supported wider use of adapted C201

method for fibrous insulation materials

• New low-biopersistence alkali aluminosilicate

• Reducing energy demand and CO2 emissions from industrial ceramic manufacture

through the use of novel raw materials and additives

• PhD project researching new methods for reducing energy demand and CO2

emissions associated with brick and roof tile manufacture
