Influences and style of film making

• Music is a large part of Tarentino’s inspiration for music, he listened to a wide variety of music in his youth and made scenes up in his head which complimented the music.

• Kinji Fukasaku and Brian De Palma have been listed by Tarantino as great inspirations

• Tarantino is renowned for his use of graphic violence which has proven to attract large audiences.

• Tarantino’s cinematic motivation to join artistic expression via live action with cartoonism is yet another example of his ability to morph genres and conventions to produce a new and authentic style of his own.

Controversies

There has been much controversy in regards to Tarantino’s use of graphic violence and racial epithets. Spike Lee famously critised Tarantino’s used of the derogatory term “nigger” in his productions. He claimed that Tarantino was trying to become an “honorary black man”. Tarantino replied with saying that he is “telling the truth.” and that “it would not be questioned if [he] was black, and resents the question because [he] is white.”

Frequent collaborators

Like various directors, Tarantino has constructed up an informal "repertory company" of actors who have appeared in numerous roles in films that he has directed. Most notable of these is Samuel L. Jackson, who appeared in five films directed by Tarantino, and a sixth that was written by him, True Romance. Other recurrent collaborators include Uma Thurman, who Tarantino has described as his "muse", Christoph Waltz and Zoë Bell.
