From high-end sailing to sellingCRUISING to some of the world’s mostexotic holiday destinations in a multi-million-dollar yacht is a lifestyle most of us can onlydream of, but for western suburbs real estateagent Andrew Clarke it was all in a day’s work.

Before joining the team at Browne Grove &Associates in Claremont,Andrew followed hisother passion in life – sailing.

His work began in the south of France,before becoming captain of several large luxuryyachts for some of the wealthiest families in theworld.

“We would charter a yacht for $500,000(US dollars) a week,’’ he said.

“Being one of the most expensive holidays inthe world, the clientele would expect the high-est possible level of service, and this was alwaysgiven, with many becoming repeat clients andexpressing it was the best time they have everhad in their life.

“From there, many clients asked me toarrange a yacht to be built for them, and I builtone in Holland for over $100 million

(Australian dollars).”When Andrew is not selling property, he is

out on the water in his boat, enjoying time withhis family.

“Boats are my favourite pastime. I met mywife in Fort Lauderdale on a boat, on our firstserious date I cruised with her around Corsicafor 10 days on a 32-foot sail boat and my sonwas conceived on a boat in St Tropez,’’ he said.

“My brother and I also have our own busi-ness selling the boat brand Luhrs.

“Boating is very much a part of my family.”When he’s not out on the water, Andrew is

selling real estate in Perth’s most prestigioussuburbs.

He began his real estate career as a traineevaluer after graduating from Curtin Universitywith a Bachelor of Business degree.

“People ask what yachting has to do withreal estate, and it’s the highest possible level ofservice and dealing with some of the wealthiestbusiness people in the world and understand-ing their expectations,’’ he said. ■

Winter could behot for salesTHE cooler weather could provide aray of hope for astute property sellers.

According to Peard Real EstateGroup CEO Peter Peard, winter pro-vides a window of opportunity for thosewanting to sell their home.

“There tends to be less competitionfrom other homeowners who generallywait until spring to sell their property,’’he said.

“This is particularly the case in coastalareas with Peard generally recording ajump of over 20 per cent in listingsbeginning from October in oceansidesuburbs such as Mindarie, Illuka, Hillarys,Sorrento and further south in Rocking-ham and Mandurah.

“Another advantage is that potentialbuyers who are active in the housingmarket during winter tend to be morecommitted and focused on purchasing anew home.”

Before putting their home on themarket in winter, sellers needed to makesure their home was attractive to poten-tial buyers.
