Grade 5/6 Boys Cricket

On Tuesday the boys cricket team went to the Aero Ovals to play cricket. In the first game we went down by 20 runs, South made 61 and we made 41. Kael and Corbin had a great partnership when batting. In the second game we played Mildura Primary School. We won the game by 28 runs. We made 64 and Mildura Primary made 44. Declan took two wickets and Max made 24 runs. Oscar batted well too. Thanks to Tim D, Sam and David for driving us down. By Max Morgan and Kael Purdue

A key practice that all PYP schools needs to model is that: The school community demonstrates an understanding of, and commitment to, the Primary Years Programme (PYP). These weekly newsletter articles are written to inform and involve the school community in our journey at Mildura West as an International Baccalaureate World School. This week’s focus is on the three Learner Profile Attributes we have been focussing on as a school. How can you help, support and develop the attributes at home?

Risk Taker When your child is feeling uneasy about trying something new encourage them to attempt it and then reflect on the

experience: What was hard? What was easy? How did they work to do it? What could they try next time?

Explain the difference between being a risk-taker by trying new things and doing dangerous things.

You can use the word courageous in your conversations.

Caring Model caring behaviour for your child.

Point out to your child when you have noticed them helping others without being asked, using kind words, thinking

of others, and doing nice things for others &/or the environment.

After reading a book consider how the different characters felt and their individual actions. Was someone caring?

How do you know?

Communicator Encourage your child to share their ideas with you regularly.

Encourage your child to stay in touch with relatives and friends by

communicating with them through conversations, phone calls, writing

letters, sending emails or connecting via the internet (eg: Skype).

Work with your child to improve their listening skills. Being a good

listener is an important part of communicating with others.

Share a book with your child and identify characters that are good

communicators. Ask your child, ‘How do the characters communicate

their message?’

On Wednesday we played cricket against Mildura South and Mildura Primary. Everyone had lots of fun and used excellent sportsmanship. Georgie took two spectacular catches and Annabella made lots of runs. Tulleah bowled someone out and Ruby was an awesome wicket keeper. By Georgie Cook and Annabella Fletcher

Send cash or cheque, along

with your order in the supplied envelope. You

must have correct money, as the photographer will

not have change.

Students “TAKE ACTION”

At the end of 2019, Sarah Crisp and her Grade 5 students decided to write to the Federal Minister, Anne Webster, about their concerns with the present state of the Murray Darling Basin. Anne Webster forwarded their concerns to the Minister for Water Resources, Drought, Natural Disasters and Emergency Management. This week, we received his response to Anne, on behalf of our students, who are now in Grade 6. I’ve included his response to the students (please see handout) One of the aims of Mildura West is to empower and motivate our students to “take action”. This is a great example of this. Well done Sarah and students!
