Administrators and teachers everywhere
recognize the important contributions parents
make toward a child’s success in
school. There is no question about it - success
at school begins at home. Parents are the
single most important variable in a child’s
schooling. Parents model both a silent and
spoken language in front of their children
daily.
One of the most important components of
a good school is the partnership between the
school and parents who work together for the
best interest of children. The close
partnership between home and school is one
of the exceptional strengths at Conway
Elementary School.
Thank you in advance for your support and
commitment. If you have any questions,

GRITS FOR GRANDPARENTS Conway Elementary School PTO fed well over 400 Grandparents and
their children in the CES cafeteria.
First grade is celebrating our winter DIBELS test results. All
students made great gains in the area of reading. Thank you
parents for supporting our efforts for growth in this area. Let's
keep up the good work and watch our scores grow even higher
to reach our year-end goals!
The Child Development class has started their unit on the five senses. For
this unit they are reading poems and books about using their senses. The
students are making a book about their sense of touch. In math, they are
working on recognizing and making patterns.
Child Development learning something new everyday
Kindergarten classes are enjoying their
Animals science kit. They are learning
about animals, their habitats and how to
care for them.
Third Grade will be attending Gullah Days at
Brookgreen Gardens! Students will learn about
the Gullah culture and traditions and how they
have impacted South Carolina. We will also be
exploring Santee Cooper Winyah Generating
Station! Students will learn about electricity and
the transfer of heat and energy. We are looking
forward to these second half of the year field trips!
Second grade has been studying about places
“Around Our Town”. One of our stories was
about a 2nd grade class taking a trip to city
hall. We read about the different jobs at city
hall and how those jobs help our town run
smoothly. To end our study, we had two city
council members visit our school and tell us
all about what goes on at the city hall in
Conway. Councilwoman, Jean Timbes and
Councilman, Ashley Smith provided us with
lots of information about all the hard work
that takes place at our city hall. We had lots
of questions and even got a “City of Conway”
pencil.
Fifth grade students are now
working on their Forces and
Motion unit in science. The classes
started by creating cars and
exploring how the different forces
on Earth affect motion. Along with
the cars, the Discovery Ed videos
and activities will also be used to
engage students and help make the
Forces and Motion unit applicable
to real life.
