2. Pre-Assessment Data Collection

  • Pre-Assessment
      • Placement test implemented within the firstweek of school from District reading series;Treasuresa McGraw Hill series.
      • Placement test intended to screen, diagnosis, and place students in appropriate reading groups and skill groups.
      • Intervention designed around pre-assessment data to improve skill deficits.

3. Participants and Setting

  • Data was collected from students in two fifth grade inclusion classrooms.
  • Teacher collecting data works between both of these rooms.
  • Inter-rater reliability of data was conducted.
  • Consultant met with each general education teacher to discuss results and outcomes and to substantiate data collection.
  • Classroom 1: 15 Students
  • Classroom 2: 14 Students
  • For purposes of confidentiality student names have been replaced with student numbers.

  • As a team, skill deficits were addressed, and explicit skill group instruction was found to be the most effective way of targeting said deficits.
  • Skill group instruction on specific skills takes place during a specified time each day.

    • Through data analysis, skill deficits will be revealed.
    • Through specified small group instruction, skill deficits will be minimized.
    • Students will make gains in content knowledge and usage.
    • Improvement will be shown through post-assessment.
  • Concerns
    • Skill group intervention will not be effective.
    • Student scheduling will prevent students from receiving adequate instruction.
    • Post-Assessment will not show significant gains despite implementation of high-quality research- based instructional practices.
