DIRECTOR’S REFRESHER CLASSHeld on Sunday February 2, 2020

The ACBL Club Director’s Refresher Course was held on Sunday. Teaching the class was Melody Euler, who has been directing tournaments for ACBL since 2012, is a gold life master and excels at training both club and tournament directors, especially in the area of customer service. The 32 participants attending enjoyed learning about recent changes, how to better handle a variety of rulings, improve customer service and handle difficult situations that can arise at the table.

Wayne Howard Christiansen passed away on May 30, 2019. He was a long-term member and a director at Clear Lake Bridge Club. He graduated from Webb Institute in 1961 with a degree

in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. He also completed a post-graduate degree at MIT. He was a member of Houston Yacht Club and was very active in Clear Lake Bridge Club and in Unit 174 competition. He was a Gold Life Master and will be missed by everyone at Clear Lake Bridge Club.

Mid-Flight Pairs It is our honor and privilege to pay tribute to Marilyn Jordan a dedicated leader in the bridge community.

Marilyn became a player and member of Bridge Club of Houston in 2007. Nine years ago, she was elected to the Board of Directors and chose to contribute through her culinary skills. She served as chef for special events and all of the Non-Life Master Tournaments.

Best known for her talent in the kitchen, Marilyn served the community in a myriad of other ways:

• Mentored players on bridge skills and etiquette.

• Ambassador ever since the program began eight years ago.

• Known for or her intelligence, and business acumen, she assisted in negotiating two Club leases.

In her own words she said “BCOH has been my passion for many years.”

ACES & KNAVESACES & KNAVESAces & Knaves is a celebrated new film about the most fascinating mind sport ever invented and will be shown FREE of charge as part of the LSR on Saturday, February 8, at 7 p.m. in the Grand Pavilion. Doors will open 20 minutes prior to the movie start so come early to secure your seat, socialize and grab a free refreshment.

The film features a quick-paced explanation of the game, lively interviews with bridge superstars, a segment on bridge and brain science, and the

gripping story of a few elite players caught cheating. Bridge players in the film include personalities from all walks of life – from Bill Gates and Warren Buffet to Jeopardy celebrity “Jeopardy James Holzhauer.”

Thanks goes to the ACBL Educational Foundation, District 16 and Houston Unit 174 for each helping to underwrite this event.

The public is invited to this free showing of the movie so help expose the game we love to potential new players by inviting your friends. As the film runs just shy of an hour, you will still have time to go out on the town… or play in our Saturday evening Zip Knock-Out game at 8:30pm.
