4 A Word...

Youth Ministry

Alpha at St. Roberts

What is Alpha? Alpha is a practical

introduction to the Christian faith, a

place where guests have an opportunity

to explore the meaning of life in a re-

laxed, friendly setting. Each session,

people enjoy great food, laughter, and

learning about the teachings of Jesus in

a fun and friendly atmosphere where no

question about life or God is seen as

too simple or too hostile. There is no

homework, and there is no charge to

attend Alpha!

For Catholics, Alpha is an especially

effective tool to inspire Catholic renewal

and answer the call of Christ and His

church to ‘go and make disciples of all

nations.’ Alpha is also wonderful for

awakening faith in people who are on

the fringe of parish life or who may be

outside the faith. Even faithful Catholics

will find their faith deepened and enliv-

ened! The Sunday evening session

begins January 10; and the Wednesday

morning session begins January 13.

An “Open House” will be held today,

January 3, in the Mainelli Center af-

ter the 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 Masses.

Come and hear more about Alpha

and talk to parishioners who have

already completed the program!

What are they saying about Alpha?

We need a new evangelization that,

while being open to all the fullness of

the truth and the Christian life will be

simple and basic. This is the reason

why I look with interest and apprecia-

tion to Alpha. It seems to me that it an-

swers precisely this need of ours. The

very name shows this. It is not called

“Alpha and Omega course,” but simply

“Alpha” because it doesn’t claim to lead

people from beginning to end in faith,

but only to help them get acquainted

with it, to foster a personal encounter

with Jesus, leaving it to other church

departments to develop the newly re-

kindled faith.” --Fr. Raniero Can-

talamessa, Preacher to the Papal

Household

Religious Education

Questions call the office at 402-333-1959.

St. Robert Bellarmine School Registration 2016-2017

It is school registration time for new families! Please stop by or call the school office, 402-334-1929, to receive your registration materials. Registra-

tion materials are due by January 22, 2016, for new students to be included in

classes that are forming for next year. Late submissions will be included, in

the order they are received, after the initial forming of lists is completed. We

look forward to serving your family in providing the best in Catholic education.

God of all heaven and earth,

From the breath of your love came the

creation of the world.

We are amazed at the vast beauty of the night sky and

at the intimate nature of the love

You have for us Your children.

May Your light shine our way, as once it guided the

steps of the magi.

Be our daily star,

Guiding our lives to search for

kingdom love,

May we always follow Your light of truth

in all that we do,

Forever trusting, hoping and believing in Your word.

Lift our eyes to see Your eternal life shining brightly,

Leading us home.

Amen

BIBLE STUDY BEGINNING In this Year of Mercy, it is particularly appropriate that our Bible Study

topic will be the Gospel of St. Luke. This gospel preserves many details about Jesus’ compassion for the outcast, the despised, and the power-

less. Jesus’ special relationship with women as well as his relationship

with Mary will especially be seen as important. As a Gentile convert, this

Gospel shows Jesus not only as the Messiah but also the Savior of the

world. And parallel to our study, in this liturgical cycle at Mass, we will

often hear from the Gospel of Luke. Come and join us as we seek to

encounter Jesus, and journey with him into a greater freedom and

joy.

ALPHA AT ST. ROBERT’S Answering the call for the New Evangelization: Alpha is a tool that is being used by

hundreds of Catholic parishes in over 70 countries around the world. Alpha creates an

environment and opportunity for an encounter with Jesus. As Pope Francis likes to say,

it's a chance for "Jesus to find them.”

The vision of Alpha is to equip the clergy and laity to effectively proclaim Jesus, utilizing

Alpha as a primary tool of evangelization. Focused on the Kerygma, we each experi-ence a new and deeper life in Christ through a personal encounter with Him. Focused on

youth, those outside the Church, on the fringes of faith and lapsed Catholics, as well

those who already have a deep faith life, we journey together to this new and deeper life

in Christ and His Church. Alpha is endorsed by Catholic Bishops and featured on the

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website.

An “Open House” will be held TODAY, January 3, in the Mainelli Center after the 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 Masses. Come and hear more about Alpha and talk to parishioners who

have already completed the program!

What are St. Robert’s parishioners saying about Alpha? “Every session built on the

others. It went from Jesus to the Church. I experienced a deepening of my relationship

with Jesus. You just want to share the joy of this experience.” “It has been so refreshing.

It is just about Jesus and his love. It is simple—it all flows from there. A real richness to

the life of Jesus…” “I liked the simplicity. No one tried to handcuff God. It is really all

about love. We are all called by Jesus, and that’s what makes up the Church.”

4 Stages of Marriage The 4 stages of marriage are: (1) Romance, (2) Disillusionment, (3) Mis-

ery, and (4) Awakening. Many marriages experience the first 3 Stages.

Marriages that end in divorce never make it to the 4th Stage of Awakening.

Don’t give up without learning about the 4th Stage of Awakening. If your

marriage suffers from Disillusionment or Misery please contact Retrouvaille.
