Issue 01 PVG NEWSLETTER 24 June 2016 IN THIS ISSUE Dear PVG members, We’re pleased to inform you that the first semester’s events and transition back to the original campus had been a smooth and successful one. This year we have received an overwhelming response from volunteers for all events - a very positive sign of parental involvement in our fast-moving society today. Nevertheless, we are constantly exploring on new ways how we can further improve our system to involve all parents, many of whom had volunteered but have not been selected. We are very grateful to all who volunteered. Please be patient with us, while we do our best to involve all. An important message of this newsletter is to take all of us back to the beginning of the year! We hope that the following updates, shared with your daughter, will help her to recall her experiences of her participation in the school’s various events. Some children may need more encouragement to participate or to try something new. Positive reinforcement is a boost to one’s self-confidence, which in turn empowers one to face with fortitude to conquer, the inevitable changes in life circumstances and environments. Let’s Get Started!!! January 2016 Home sweet home! Back at Hillcrest campus and a warm welcome to all new Primary onesies and their parents! It was a month full of exploration for the girls at their new playground and brand new PARTS building. A PVG volunteer who possesses a flare for designs and painting had brought the all-time favourite hopscotch to many girls who will hasten their break time just to stretch themselves! The blazing heat was terribly unbearable during this time of the year yet it had to be hand painted and this mommy did it! MANY THANKS Mommy!

IN THIS ISSUE

Dear PVG members,

We’re pleased to inform you that the first semester’s events and transition back to the original campus had been a smooth and successful one.

February 2016 11-12 Feb Mother Tongue This session like past years were held during recess time, the girls were exposed to 6 different Tang poems. Each selected one with the help of our parent volunteers, some traced and some wrote directly onto the card. A separate parent volunteer took the girls with completed cards to explain to them the meaning of the poems. At the same time, she emphasized each character’s pronunciation and the way poems should be recited.

Chinese Lunar New Year Lo Hei

Civil Defense day as it was announced that morning. Upon registration, a pair of mandarin oranges in a bag was handed out. Mrs. Yue delivered a short speech before all proceeded to the lower canteen to toss to the sweet smelling scrumptious Yu Sheng. It was the loudest moment for all present to shout out all auspicious wishes to everyone around! Lo Hei!!!

With the help of 2 mommies leading the team, careful and well thought-of poems about Spring were selected. The mommies also selected the appropriate type of paper and design to ensure that all the girls can manage this.

We were delighted at the huge turnout of PVs for the 2 hours of intensive training! Kudos to all!

Lovely Chinese pictures were chosen to be pasted on the back of the card to complete this craft.

15 April, International Friendship day

In partnership with Turkish Cultural Centre, they brought us their dessert that comes with a live performance called the dancing cone!

Whilst many were waiting for their turn, they were given sips of the popular Turkish tea. Your choice of sugar or not had to be seriously made upfront because of a special mixing process.

Besides, Chaoyang School was also invited to join us in the afternoon, our ambassadors did a great job in hosting them! Keep it up ambassadors!

Malay Culture

Ketuput, satay and rendang were amongst the food display while Ketuput weaving was demonstrated.

Tepak Sireh explained the Malay wedding preparations and sireh bagi were given to all the girls who visited the booth.

Amazing Ebru Art had completely mesmerized everyone. This awe-inspiring art intrigued our girls to create their masterpieces and bringing it home as a souvenir with them.

On the left lower canteen, a photo booth to don on Turkish costume was set up. The girls could choose from a few traditional costumes like a tesettur to pose for a printable photograph with a scenic backdrop of Turkey.

Sampling of Turkish delight, Red Lentil Kofta and Rice Milk Pudding were savored.

Chinese Culture

An excellent team effort of parents to enhance this special day with colourful Chinese Friendship knot. A truly meaningful gift for great friendship!
