Snowflakes (Warren/ Piggyback Songs, adapted) Tune: “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”

Snowflakes, snowflakes dance around. [move snowflake in the air] Snowflakes, snowflakes, touch the ground. [touch snowflake to the floor] Snowflakes, snowflakes, in the air. [move snowflake in the air] Snowflakes, snowflakes, everywhere [twirl with snowflake] Snowflakes, snowflakes dance around. [move snowflake in the air] Snowflakes, snowflakes, touch the ground. [toss snowflake into the air and let it fall to the floor]

Cut out large snowflakes from paper or use circles of tulle material. Give each child a snowflake to do the movements to the song.

Rain, rain, go away. [gently move fingers as if raining] Come again another day. Everybody wants to play.

Weather watcher, weather watcher, What do you see? What do you see? Tell us what the weather’s like. Tell us what the weather’s like. Won’t you, please? Won’t you, please?

Use a flannel board and select a child to tell about the weather using the flannel board pieces.

What Will the Weather Be? (Charner/ The Giant Encyclopedia of Circle Time) Tune: ”Oh Dear, What Can the Matter Be?”

Oh my, what will the weather be? Oh my, what will the weather be? Oh my, what will the weather be? It will be [rainy, cloudy, sunny, snowy, windy] today.

Change each verse and use with a flannel board.

Raindrops, raindrops! [move fingers to imitate falling rain] Falling all around. Pitter-patter on the rooftops, [tap softly on your head] Pitter-patter on the ground. [tap softly on the floor] Here is my umbrella. [pretend to open umbrella] It will keep me dry. [place umbrella over head] When I go walking in the rain, I hold it up so high. [hold high in the air]

Have you ever seen the wind blow, the wind blow, the wind blow? Have you ever seen the wind blow leaves this way and that? [move paper leaves above head] Blow leaves this way and that way and this way and that way. Have you ever seen the wind blow leaves this way and that?

Five umbrellas stood by the back door, The red one went outside, Then there were four.

Three umbrellas with nothing to do, The green one went outside, Then there were two.

Two umbrellas not having much fun, The yellow one went outside, Then there was one.

Just one umbrella alone in the hall. The purple one went outside, And that was all.
