Happy 2010 to you! I wish you a safe, happy and prosperous year. Have you noticed the new development coming in between Franz and Morton on Porter Road?. Cane Island will be an 820 acre project developed by a Minzie Family owned and operated Limited Partnership. About 1600-2050 residential lots will be developed. The first phase planned will be two acre lots. An elemen- tary school will also be built within the acreage. TXDOT has an exit ramp off I-10 eventually planned and a new Cane Island Parkway will lead from I-10 directly to the community. Also, a follow up to the Fulshear Creek project I mentioned last month…seems the rear lots in the development will back on to a vineyard! KEEPING YOU INFORMED

AND EMPOWERED!

An elemen-tary school will also be built within the acreage. TXDOT has an exit ramp off I-10 eventually planned and a new Cane Island Parkway will lead from I-10 directly to the community. Also, a follow up to the Fulshear Creek project I mentioned last month…seems the rear lots in the development will back on to a vineyard!

Wondering what’s on top of the new Memorial Hermann hospital at I-10 and Gessner? The top “crown” shaped floors belong to the building owner but the secretive Houston-based developer will not reveal what goes on up there.

Katy-Fort Bend Road will be widened to four lanes from I-10 to Colo-nial.

Park Row is being expanded to 4 lanes from HW 6 into the City of Katy The 2.7-mile segment of Greenbusch from Falcon Landing to Pin Oak,

the 1.5-mile stretch of Katy-Flewellen from Katy-Gaston to Pin Oak, and a 1.7-mile section of Katy-Gaston from Cinco Ranch Boulevard to FM 1093 — all currently two-lane country roads with open ditches — will be upgraded to four-lane boulevards with divided medians, curbs and gutters.

The Katy Area Economic Development Corp. and Chamber of Com-merce will open a new Workforce Solutions near Katy Mills Mall.

Pathfinder Energy Services plans to build corporate facility on 25 acres at Colonial Parkway and 99.

Remember the big mall that was coming to Katy? The project has been put on hold indefinitely.

Katy is named for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (commonly referred to as the “K-T” Railroad. It was also once known as Cane Is-land derived form Cane Island Creek.

Consider hiring a professional home energy auditor to come into your home and recommend ways to boost your energy effi-ciency. Some utility companies have programs that pay for all or part of the audit, so contact yours to see what’s available in your area. Look for cracks around windows, doors, electrical outlets and switches — especially on exterior walls — and recessed ceiling lights in insulated ceilings. These small openings can add up to as much as 30% of fuel waste in a home, according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. To locate drafts, hold a tissue or candle near potential spots and then caulk as needed.
