PROGRAM FOR UPCOMING MEETINGS 5/4: Gil Shew and Carol Dennhardt - St Andrew’s Place & McCready Manor; Sgt at Arms: Todd Jones 5/11: Erin Moore, Richmond Director, Parks & Recreation; Sgt at Arms: James Howard 5/18: Prof. Mike Austin, Character; Sgt at Arms Raymond Jackson Committee presented a check in the amount of $5,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Madison and Clark Counties, proceeds from the final New Year's Eve gala. Many thanks to Rusty, Meena, and all committee members who created a beautiful event. The proceeds will go to the construction of a safe home for a family in Richmond. Tim Houck, Sgt. at Arms, quizzed us about money. Karen Hood introduced today's speaker, Chris Bowersock, Executive Director the of Small Business Development Center at EKU. The SBDC serves 15 counties in the area, assisting new businesses and existing businesses with business planning, financial management consulting, regulatory compliance, and international trade. He asked our help to spread his message that the SBDC exists to help businesses succeed. There are 3 workshops coming up in May, all at no cost. Contact Chris at 622-7995 or [email protected]. Chris ended his presentation with a TED talk, the theme of which was, "How would the person you want to be do this task before you now?" The acorn must think like the oak. Welcome back Lynn Buckles who is on the mend! President Larry called the meeting to order; Adam Stanley led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and Mark Cordrey gave the invocation. We were chomping at the bit to sing Camptown Races and then wished happy birthday to Richard Thomas. Several members of the morning club joined us: Meena Mohanty, Matthew Howell, John Davidson and Skip Moore. Guests were Sheila Vaughn of Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass and Gus LaFontaine of LaFontaine Preparatory Academy. Announcements! RAAC has 2 exhibits currently. Residents of Nathaniel House are displaying their art (which is for sale) and there is an exhibit of art that will be installed at Baptist Health. Madison Singers are giving a concert on May 1, and the RAAC Derby Brunch is May 7. Hospice Plus has their signature event, Derby Eve Gala on May 6. The Madison County Airport Open House is April 30 from 10:00 - 3:00. Rotary District Training is this Saturday in Lexington. The District Conference is May 13 - 14 at Jenny Wiley State Park.
